Changes in June 2018
[edit]159.83.252.234 has added a significant amount of content to this biography taken directly from Kathryn Barger's website, and most of the content could be summarized with a sentence or two to adequately reflect its weight. I'm going to work on a better way to summarize this content, but wanted to go ahead and start a talk page section to hold any future discussion. Sparzival (talk) 18:38, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
- Proposed text. The IP is still hard at work, so I'll wait for them to be at a good stopping place before making this edit on the article (this edit will precede an edit to the lede). As part of this proposal, the heading title "Stances" should also be changed to "Political views" or something similar.
"In her role as a county supervisor, Barger has co-authored bills furthering the county’s support for veterans[1] and foster children[2].
Barger also co-authored motions to address homelessness in LA County, which notably includes a bill passed by the California State Assembly in May of 2018 amending the state’s definition of “gravely disabled”, and allowing more state-sponsored medical care to be provided to those who may be suffering from a serious mental illness.[3][4]
Barger coauthored a motion creating the Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Safety, which was intended to explore the impact that Assembly Bill 109, California Proposition 47, and Proposition 57, which were collectively aimed at converting many nonviolent drug offenses into misdemeanors and allowing for the early release of some inmates, has had inside of Los Angeles County.[5] The formation of the commission was a controversial reaction to the murder of police Officer Keith Boyer, and ultimately passed on a 3-0 vote with abstentions. The formation of the commission was controversial, with critics citing that many of the 27 members drafted to the commission were directly affected by Proposition 47, coming from roles within the county’s judicial system.[6]Cite error: The <ref>
tag has too many names (see the help page).[7]
In 2017, Barger was the only opposition in a 4-1 vote to eliminate the "registration fee" that the Los Angeles County Public Defender's office and other court-appointed counsel charge defendants before providing them with legal services.[8].[9]
In 2017, Barger was the only opposition in a 4-1 vote to establish the Business Registration program, which would levy a fee on businesses to create a registry and connect them with county resources.[10]
In 2018, Barger supported the appointment of Nicole Tinkham as interim public defender, despite a letter signed by 390 public defenders who were concerned that Tinkham lacked criminal law experience and the potential for a conflict of interest, given Tinkham's prior representation of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department."[11]"
- Adding my signature a bit late! Sparzival (talk) 14:46, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- I've had eyes on this page for a while after I reverted the same IP blanking sections of this page with a negative view of the subject. Don't know why I didn't do this sooner because the edits to this page seem a little COI-ish, but I just did a geolocation of the IP and they are making edits from Los Angeles, CA and the ISP is Los Angeles County Internal Services. Given that the article subject works for Los Angeles County, I think there could be some COI editing going on. Will tag accordingly. Aspening (talk) 13:22, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed, and thanks for doing that. I noticed it yesterday, but don't have much experience adding tags. A few of the other administrators in this county have the same issue, so maybe on another day I'll add them to my watch list too. Thanks for all you do! Sparzival (talk) 14:46, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- No problem. If you notice any other pages with similar issues, especially regarding LA County (since there is already a potential COI problem), let me know on my talk page and I can help out. I'd also recommend using Twinkle for tagging pages. Aspening (talk) 15:23, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Kathryn Barger
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Kathryn Barger's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 06:35, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
