Name

[edit]

I have yet to find any citation to warrant the use of Kathryn "Kate" Fleming vs. Kate Fleming. In fact, the LOC Name Authority record for Ms. Fleming is Kate Fleming:

http://authorities.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?GetAuthRecs=1&SEQ=20061219090530&PID=2430

Is there another source for her name? ChartreuseLight 14:19, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kathryn is the name that was first reported to the media. See these Google news links. --Chris S. 15:18, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Farm

[edit]

I suggest we get rid of the citation farm (six references) used for this sentence: "She is survived by her wife and partner of nine years, Charlene Strong." This seems like a straightforward assertion of fact, and probably any one of the six references would be sufficient. Disclaimer: I have not read any of the references.

I came to the article as a reader, and I find those citations distracting. They call attention to themselves, suggesting there is some reason to doubt the statement is true, using the citation farm to settle it. If there is a meaningful dispute about whether or not the statement is true, then we should mention the credible sources that dispute it rather than use a citation farm to take one side of the dispute. Is there a credible dispute of the veracity of the statement?

I know we have talked about policies of how to treat these citation farms, but I forget where that is handled.

If I come back in the future and see that no one has responded and objected to my suggestion, I will go ahead and do something to prune those citations down to one or at most two. One or two references seems plenty IMHO.
