Proposal for contribution

[edit]

I plan to combine this article with another article with Oduponkepehe; for, Kasoa and Oduponkepehe are synonymous names for a single town. Therefore, it is appropriate that they be represented by one article. In order to acknowledge both frequently used names, the new title of this article will be "Kasoa (Oduponkepehe)." Both of these articles have received Stub-Class ratings. In this newly combined article, I plan to improve the quality and quantity of information that the two previous articles provided. In the near future I will be contributing a significant amount of well cited sources and well organized information to this article. I will combine and strengthen the existing information from both pages and insure that any information provided in the article is from credible neutral sources. I plan to add multiple sections to give a more comprehensive overview of this rapidly growing city. I am planning to contribute to the existing sections (location, population and external links) and to add wholly new sections (politics, economy, and health). Please refer to my user page for a more detailed proposal. I welcome any recommendations regarding suggested subsections, suggestions for specific resources that may help me to portray the most neutral and comprehensive article possible, or any other relevant information I should consider. I am working on this article as part of a Rice University class assignment. However, my interest in Kasoa extends far beyond my course work. I will be spending three weeks there this summer and hope to continue to learn about the city and as I do so, I plan to continue to update this article.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Brookeethleen (talk) 00:24, 28 February 2014 (UTC) Brookeethleen (talk) 00:24, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brookeethleen and welcome, I see, you're the second student from Rice University to touch on my watchlist and Wikiproject Ghana relatted article :-), nice. I totally agree with merging this two articles, I never knew Oduponkpehe existed as a separated Wikipedia article if I'd would have merged a while ago. Secondly Odunponkpehe was it's previous name (past), it is now know Kasoa officially hence I disagree with name Kasoa (Odupunkpehe). So I strongly recommend keeping Kasoa and making Oduponkpehe a redirect. Thanks and let me know if my help will be required. Regards. →Enock4seth (talk) 00:38, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Brookeethleen: I agree with Enock4seth - it would be best for the expanded article to be at Kasoa. I look forward to seeing the end result! Moswento talky 09:40, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Enock4seth and Moswento, thank you very much for your advice! Can you please explain to me how I can go about making the Odunponkpehe article redirect? Thanks again!Brookeethleen (talk) 06:02, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Brookeethleen: You're welcome, the links below will guide you on creating redirects:

Came here from wikiproject Africa. I went ahead and merged the articles. --Banana (talk) 03:43, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for passing by @Banana04131:. But you should have allowed Brookeethleen. On a lighter note: but no problem. Regards. →Enock4seth (talk) 08:42, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just for the future, can you explain why I shouldn't have edited? I'm not familiar with the program which Brookeethleen is participating in. --Banana (talk) 01:44, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Banana04131 Just to let the user know how it is done that it's all I was referring to. Brookeethleen is participating in a school program in contributing to Wikipedia. I have no problem with using either Kasoa or Odukponkpehe. These are however in fact suburbs of Gomoa Nyanyano where the Odikro (chief of the town) resides. The Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano has not deemed it necessary to rename the town Gomoa Nyanyano in official records but it should go on record. Odukponkpehe is a presumptuous designation as it is a Ga name and it is being given to an Akan town. This is mostly from the Ga farmers who were allowed land grants but have chosen to style themselves as overlords of the land. The Awutus, Senyas and Berekus are Guans (the older branch of the Akan nation) and they were vassals of the Gomoa but later were allowed their independence under British rule. The Gomoa garrison Nyanyano has however retained its traditional land ownership rights to this day. Nyanyano claimed and obtained rights to the Ga South Municipality lands and is asserting its right over Accra West up to the Odaw River at present. This is because the title deeds for the Korle-Bu Hospital Complex and Korle-gonno resettlement area are both signed by Nyanyano's Odikro. Gomoas are only asserting their traditional rights. It is unfortunate that tribal rancour has been instigated between two closely related nationalities-the Akans and Ga-Adangbe because of ancient history which some demand must be set aside. Ghana has no squatter rights so no matter how long you stay on someone's land you cannot claim it as your own. Thank you.

Article suggestions

[edit]

Hi Brookeethleen,

Your contribution to "Kasoa" has several broad sections – location, population, politics, and economy – that contain general information about Kasoa; I think you could target the focus of these sections by adding subsections. For example, the Wikipedia article about Lilongwe has sections addressing History, Demographics, Geography, Economy, Society and Culture, Transportation, and Education, and several of these broad sections have more specific subsections. You have already incorporated 19 sources, which gives the reader a broad perspective on the topic. However, in some of your sections, you rely heavily on a single source – for example, in the section entitled "Politics," more than half of the section is derived from one source. You occasionally cite your sources by referring to the relevant journal title, author, and year of publication (e.g. "An article in the Journal of Global Gender Studies reports that studies conducted by Eunice Adjei-Bosompem in 2013..."), which is great. I think you can make certain parts of the article less repetitive, such as the section addressing Kasoa's population growth during the past 4 decades. Finally, the article includes one illustration (a map of Ghana indicating the location of Kasoa). I think you can improve this image by, if possible, noting the location of Accra on the map, since you describe Kasoa's location relative to Accra's in the article. Great work!
