Karula Parish vs Karula commune

[edit]

Karula Parish covers a wider area than the Karula commune and therefore the redirection is not very adequate. Ohpuu 07:22, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

@Ohpuu: I am not sure what means Karula Commune. Ideas? Maybe we just delete redirect Karula Commune?--Estopedist1 (talk) 13:18, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Vald = commune (current rural municipality, boundaries shift with administrative reforms and amalgamations of municipalities); kihelkond = parish (ecclesiastical and ethnographic area, boundaries fixed in about 1920, when these ceased to be administrative units). I have no idea why some sources in English have started to use parish as a translation for rural municipality, whereas the consensus used to be to use commune for rural municipality. In a lot of cases, this causes no confusion but the former Karula parish vs Karula commune is one case where it might. -- Ohpuu (talk) 08:02, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
