Popuation before russian invasion
[edit]İf 82000 Turks fled Kars between 1879-1881 and the Turkish population fell to just 25 percent of the population after the Russians populated the area with armenian, Russian and German colonists what portion of the population was Turkish before the russian invasion. Presumably Turks were the absolute majority but what does it say in the Russian source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.242.174.130 (talk) 12:44, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- No anonymous user 88.242.174.130., the population of the portions of the ottoman eyalets that later belong to the Kars Oblast, probably had a proportional more numerous turkish population. It's true. But the population that left this territories wasn't simply turkish. They was turkish, kurdish, karapapak, persians and other muslim populations (an even christian groups how armenians or "assyrians") because all these groups lived in the "Ottoman Kars" first of russian conquests, not only turks. If 40.000-60.000 (not 80.000, these was the muslims: turkish yes, but kurds or karapapaks also, the russian source don't say nothing of the composition fo these muslims) of the people that left the region was really turks, this wasn't change significantly the population composition. The turks (kurds and even karapapaks wasn't turks), lived there in 1860, with armenians and other indigenous christian population, how in the rest of ottoman empire before 1914.
- I don't speak russian (neither a good english, sorry for the mistakes), but in the russian source say: С 1878 г. по 1881 г. в Турцию выселилось более 82000 мусульман, причем из одного Карса ушло до 11000 чел.
- If i understand with the google translator only 11.000 people went to colonize the Kars Oblast in the period 1878-1881. 82.000 people left, 11.000 arrived. Thus the emigration of 80,000 Muslims, does not imply that the Turks, that were 24% in 1892, were more than 30-35% in 1877. 30-35% as much (and is only a generous speculation, maybe minus), not an absolute majority. --87.217.73.96 (talk) 23:05, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
