Disputed
[edit]In the article the Karnaphuli Tunnel is claimed to be the first underwater river tunnel in South Asia after its completion in 2022. But another underwater river tunnel in neighbouring West Bengal state of India called East West Metro Tunnel is set to be completed in 2021 and this tunnel also located in South Asia, so hypothetically it should be called first underwater river tunnel in South Asia rather than Karnaphuli Tunnel. And beside the source used to provide the reference to support the claim that Karnaphuli Tunnel is the first of its kind in all of South Asia is also seems to be biased because the news article is written by an anonymous correspondent from the country where the Karnaphuli Tunnel is being constructed. Therefore I think the accuracy of this particular claim of Karnaphuli Tunnel being the first of its kind in South Asia is disputed and this non neutral claim should be corrected and the word " South Asia " should be replaced with the word " Bangladesh ". - Since East West Metro Tunnel is still under-construction, it is alright to claim Karnaphuli will be the first underwater tunnel in South Asia. It is also verified by a WP:RS. You can put a disputed tag when you show a source that claims East West Metro will be the first, I don't see any such source. Za-ari-masen (talk) 11:25, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- I have also added another citation from Saudi Gazette (non-Bangladeshi source) which describes, ""The 3.5km-long four-lane tunnel, the first of its kind in Bangladesh and region"". Za-ari-masen (talk) 11:56, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Za-ari-masen, But since both Karnaphuli Tunnel and East West Metro Tunnel is under construction, we can't hypothetically declare Karnaphuli Tunnel as the first of its kind in South Asia right? Beside I am not tagging this claim as disputed to claim East west metro tunnel as the first if its kind in South Asia. Among both of them East West metro tunnel is scheduled to open one year earlier than Karnaphuli Tunnel, but no one claimed it to be first of its kind in South Asia because it is still in construction. And in the source of your citation it clearly doesn't say South Asia but "Bangladesh and region". That means it is first of its Kind either in the Chittagong Region where its located or the various types of region where Bangladesh is located, which can range from Bengal, Indian Subcontinent to all the way upto South Asia, Asia. And beside I don't find any other reliable neutral sources to claim Karnaphuli Tunnel as the first of its kind in South Asia. So in my opinion it should be designated as first ever of its kind in Bangladesh rather than in whole South Asia until its construction is finished. Kingarthur581 (talk) 16:50, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- There is another source from Dhaka Tribune which has even been republished by an Indian portal Maritime Gateway. Just because a source is from Bangladesh doesn't make it self-published. And the Saudi Gazette article is also most definitely referring to the South Asian region. We have to follow the WP:RS, our personal opinions doesn't matter per WP:V and WP:OR, and this is not even factually incorrect since there is no underwater tunnel in South Asia built yet, so Karnaphuli Tunnel may well become the first. As I said, show me a WP:RS where another project in South Asia is claimed to be the first underwater tunnel and I will gladly remove the sentence. This is not even a disputed fact as there is no WP:RS with a conflicting information so I'm removing the tag. Za-ari-masen (talk) 07:34, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
