Wrong statements
[edit]There are a couple of wrong statements in this article, most are minor errors but one leaps out: The article states "And master Choki Motobu was the heir of a martial art whose core very similar to judo, the gotende." – this is wrong! Choki Motobu was not the heir of Motobu Ryu Udundi (Udundi being the okinawan pronouciation of Gotende, meaning palace hand), but his older brother Choyu was. Choki was not allowed to learn his family art. It was passed on to Seikichi Uehara and Chosei Motobu. Udundi is also very, very different from Judo! It's probably more similar to Aiki-Jujutsu, -Taijutsu, Aikido, Tai Chi or Bagua. I will take out that sentence because it's obviously bollocks. -- 93.207.1.36 (talk) 11:35, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Hey, just wanted to say that some of the thrust of the article is incorrect. Karate didn't take throws from Judo because it didn't have any, Karate comes from Five Ancestor Fist, White Crane, and Luohan Quan Kung Fu, all of which have throws and locks. Many of the older Karate Books (pre 1960's) document many of these throws, which are markedly different from Judo throws. Over time many of these throws and locks were hidden or forgotten due to emphasis on sport karate and striking. You can view these throwing techniques in some of the books by Gichin Funakoshi and other karate masters at the University of Hawaii digital archive:
