I want to hear about the mass murders of the 1970s of innocent middle class by the naxals led by Kanu Sanyal. Kanu Sanyal and Charu Mazumdar was one of the first terrorists of India. The Naxals believed they could do magic to turn the society in to an ideal paradise for "peasants and working people". This was their "science project". The cost of this project was - terror in Kolkata and nearby districts for anyone who was employed with the govt. or police.

Without knowing any background or history Kanu Sanyal and Charu Mazumdar started the dangerous experiments that jeopardized the growth and all future prospects of Bengal. They brain washed the best young minds of the times and led them in the forefronts of this revolution. These young minds , believed in the armed revolt and came forward to fight for the cause of an unreal cause. Much like the fanatics terrorists in other parts of the world. The naxalities believed by be-heading the statues of the founders of the nation they will create a reign of terror that will lead to the salvation of the poor and middle class.

The Naxalites were not corrupt and were against corruption in society - just like the Taliban movement. However they did not know the power of people and the finer art of politics and running a country. Everything they talked about and said reflected this - they always thought what was possible in China was also possible India. The elementary science project without much thought provoked mass uprising across the entire state and led to the mass movement - Naxals. They are persistent even today - involved in legal and illegal activities.

Will someone from Naxalbari confirm that the owners of land in Naxalbari were Biharis and UPites. The revolt of local Bengalis against the land lords was mistaken for a revolution by Charu Mazumdar and Kanu Sanyal. Once the Biharis were kicked out the revolution stopped dead in its tracks. I have reverted a set of wordings by User:India Rising. The wordings are somewhat confusing, as it has an unclear chronology. (the condemnation by 'moderate communists' came already in 1967, not as a result of Sanyal's jailing) moreover, this article should concentrate specifically on sanyal, not be a duplicate on the Naxalite article. --Soman 06:58, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

True, but the repercussions of Sanyal's arrest need to be mentioned in the article. Perhaps some rewording is a good idea. India Rising 07:12, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the statement about moderate Marxists since, you are correct, it is unrelated to Sanyal's jailing. The Naxalite violence took place after Sanyal's 1979 arrest so the chronology is quite clear there. India Rising 07:14, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
However, there are also other points. The aim of the Naxal movement was not to take over West Bengal, the aim of the movement was Indian revolution. --Soman 07:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which they aimed to do by taking over West Bengal and spreading to other states. India Rising 07:24, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, that is historically incorrect. The initial Naxal tactics was the simultaneous launching of local uprisings in various places in India, 'igniting the sparks' in their parlance, with would foment an India-wide revolution. The idea was never to seize control over West Bengal and then to spread it to the rest of the country. --Soman 07:28, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
