Distressing...

[edit]

I will not sit here and claim to know everything about the Kanem Empire. I am reasonably sure I'm the only editor here who has spent over three years researching the hell out of West and Central Africa. I am a researcher but not an independent one. I use sources that have been published by reputable publishing houses. It is against wiki policy to use self-published stuff, even if said person holds a doctorate in the subject. I went to a lot of trouble to find the flag/banner of Kanem and Bornu. If anyone doubts the authenticity of the representation please check this link... http://www.hubert-herald.nl/Tchad.htm#_edn2

Also, the Assyrian king thing is more far fetched than anything I've ever heard in life. Sargon lived in the 2nd millenium BC. How the hell could he have founded a state that didn't exist until at least the 6th century AD (and that's being really generous)? I appreciate those who tried to compromise with that particular researcher and find common ground, but you can't find common ground in an ocean. That kind of stuff on the internet is why people don't take wiki seriously. Wikipedia is not here for people to push their personal agenda (educational or otherwise). It's here to share FACTS. I repeat FACTS. Not opinions. Not groundbreaking research. Please stop, for the love of all things African and black...please stop. You are embarrassing us.
