I think a mention of the Indian origin would suffice —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.207.222.130 (talk) 17:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, they are a subgroup of the Romani people so I think it goes without saying. Kenshin (talk) 14:34, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are the Kalderash criminals

[edit]

In a recent British documentary a journalist visited leaders of the Gypsy party which are also the leaders of the Gypsy clans. They did not allow the Kalderash in their party and accused them from committing almost all crimes committed by Gypsies and told that they did not condone crime themselves.

It could be clearly seen that those leaders were rich. While many of their people are very poor. However, in the gypsy slums you could see very much new and big Mercedes driving around. And they were not used to move caravans around. That money had to come somewhere.

In that same documentary members of the Kalderash admitted to be thieves and that it was tradition among the kalderash but they also said that other Gypsies groups also steel to survive. They told they did it because they could not get a job. And they also said that there were no Kalderash in London at that time. However, a Bulgarian gang member told in that same documentary that Bulgarians are the ones that runs the gangs and that they also force Kalderash to pick-pocket and prostitute themselves for them. 82.168.243.40 (talk) 22:28, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you might have missed the point. Those "leaders" that you saw were likely Lovari. It's a caste thing: Lovara look down on Kalderash, Kalderash look down on Sintis, everyone looks down on the gorgio. But there's no reason to specifically associate Kalderash with crime.
