Re: It has been suggested that KDE Plasma 4/5 be merged into this article.
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was do not merge. TappyTurtle [talk | contribs] 13:45, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
I don't think the merge is necessary. Each major software release is different enough to qualify for its own article in my opinion, as they feature lots of removed or added programs and updates. If anything, I would do it like the page for GNOME where a brief overview of each version is given with a link back to the article for that version. Also seems to be missing versions 1, 2, and 3 of KDE. --StreetcarEnjoyer (talk) 19:22, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with this. If this article will get merged, then it should include a short description of each KDE Plasma version (kind of like Ubuntu version history). If it doesn't, then KDE Plasma 4 and 5 should be kept as separate articles. When Plasma 6 comes out in February 2024, the article should be created (if it isn't merged). smordarski (talk | contributions) 02:42, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
I don't think those should be included (as sections) in this article because those were before KDE Plasma came about with the release of KDE SC 4. TappyTurtle (talk • contribs) 00:45, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Also seems to be missing versions 1, 2, and 3 of KDE.
— User:StreetcarEnjoyer 19:22, 7 January 2024 (UTC)- As for not merging, I agree. The articles do need some fixing up and expansion to prove that they indeed shouldn't be merged, though. TappyTurtle (talk • contribs) 00:53, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- I do not think that they should be merged. If anything, reduce the content on the main Plasma page with brief overview, as smordarski suggested. I also agree with TappyTurtle that K Desktop Environment (KDE), which is very distinct from KDE Plasma environment, should be separate article. Ernieg92 (talk) 18:31, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- I wanted to just note that this has been moved to KDE Plasma per this RM/TR request, as the original status quo was for "KDE Plasma X", if anybody opposes that you're free to comment on WP:RM/TR. ASUKITE 14:18, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Now that we are on Plasma 6 (at least some of my desktop has made it), should there be a KDE Plasma page and a separate page for the various versions? Is there an intent to have different pages for desktop/"larger laptop" versions and for what I presume is the mobile version (and by large are we talking mass, volume, RAM, HDD??? seems an odd adjectival qualification). 2601:447:CD7E:7CF0:0:0:0:56AE (talk) 00:20, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Quote from article says: It is designed for desktop PCs and larger laptops.
- In case anyone noticed, or cared about, my comment about an odd criteria. I run Plasma 6 on a Raspberry Pi 4 with the default UI so I am not totally sure it is the more factual of statements. 2601:447:CD7E:7CF0:0:0:0:56AE (talk) 00:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
