Bar Girls?

I think there really should be an article on Bar Girls and Juicy Girl should be a part of that article. Indian bar girls are completely different in situation from Korean Juicy Girls. Then there are Thai bar girls and other professions that could come within the scope of the article. Redirecting Bar Girls to Juicy Girls looks like a bad idea. - Aditya Kabir 08:39, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

When I was in Germany in '85 there was a similar setup, the soldiers called them "Whisk(e)y dolls." One of the guys used to come around trying to bum a few Deutschmarks to "Buy a whiskey doll"; as I recall he was trying to amass 50 DM. 18-26 years old? That's not true. This is too general and does not clearly explain that girls drink juice instead of alcohol; hence juicy girls.

We're pooling all of south east asia. There are no cambodian whores in korea. drop the south east asian reference, it's wrong. Chinese maybe. Vietnam? Thailand? Malaysia? Laos? Filipino does not make south east asia. In the 17 years I've been going to South Korea, I've yet to run into a Thai girl. Who wrote this garbage? There are Koreans, Russians, and a plethora of Filipinas. Another area in the juicybars where extra services are performed? Never seen one! Barber shops, yes, where you can get "the works."

This article is alright for the most part. However, the human trafficking stuff is mostly untrue. I was there when Fox News made that report. Many of the girls aren’t forced, probably only a small percentage, although I’ll admit I didn’t do a professional survey. If you are there long enough, much of the truth eventually comes out, especially if you know some of the locals. My observation was that most of the girls were not brought to Korea on a false premise. Most seemed to have known full well what they were coming for. In fact many seemed to have come from hostess clubs in Japan (I don’t mean they are Japanese) only coming to Korea after their age made them less marketable to the Japanese. Others did similar work in the Philippines. Holding passports was used by several clubs, under the premise that they pay back the cost the club owner’s investment (cost of airfare, etc.). While certainly not legal, I don’t think it can be equivocated to slavery. I am not trying to justify it, but I think it’s a far cry from what’s been portrayed. That is, the idea that these girls are “tricked” into prostitution, and held against their will, seems incorrect, given my observations. Many did seem to enjoy their work, and the attention, not to mention the money.

I am of the opinion that many of the “slave” stories, though not all, are used to garner sympathy from patrons. In fact I witnessed this, often to deceive very young G.I.’s, into buying out their contracts for large sums of money (several thousand), or to just bilk them through continued patronage, clothes, gifts, etc. All usually under the guise of “I was forced, I’m not seeing anyone else, I really love only you”. At least until the next sucker came along. Just about every unit, at any given time, had at least a couple of guys who got themselves in to trouble over this. Selling their TA-50 (or stealing), so they could go downrange to see their fiancée, only to find her with another man.

Also, long before Fox showed up, most of the bar owners prohibited the girls from prostituting, as it takes too much time, as opposed to potential sales of $10-$20 drinks for 10-15 minutes time. Only at handful of clubs in the T.D.C. was it allowed. It sounds like the authors description of private areas for sex, was more then likely the girls sneaking in extra money. I saw that happen too, and the consequences if they got caught by the club owner (FYI many of the owners are ex “Drinky Girls”). If you didn’t discuss the terms of sex with “ma”, the girl was freelancing on ma’s time, without paying ma. The terms for sex were openly discussed, there was no need for some hidden “understanding”, at least not until Fox came along.

Sometimes marriage followed; often the girl disappeared (after the contract was paid off). I have personally witnessed both, and frequently, over several years. While I don’t mean to detract from the issue of human trafficking, as some of the girls really are forced, in my observations this was usually not the case.

These are things that I can’t give citation for, so I will not edit the article. I was in a unique position to observe a lot of what really went on. I am sure there are other soldiers who could corroborate what I say. The problem is, most won’t talk about what they know, for obvious reasons. The sad thing is, so many young men were caught up in this, many from small towns and never exposed to this type of sexually explicit environment. Far too often I saw young soldiers giving large sums of money to these women, thinking it was true love.

Most of the girls were from the Philippines, some from Russia as well. There were only a handful of Koreans; in fact there were only three in T.D.C... I never saw a single girl from Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter. Unless things have changed, the article should remove that statement.

While I was there, it was more common to call them “Drinky Girls”; though some of the old timers called them “Juicy Girls”, which a few younger guys did pick up on it. It was usually a unit preference with the majority using “Drinky Girl”. The author was probably an MP. The were the only ones I heard consistently use the term “Juicy Girl” and “The Ville”. That last one in particular, was only used by MP’s with the exception of some higher ranking officers. Almost everyone else said “Downrange”.

This is a very complex subject that is not easy to understand. Further, there is a lot of B.S. floating around regarding the sex trade in Korea. The double barber poles is an example, the majority are not brothels. 안마 is a dead giveaway (with a some exceptions). The hot water symbol is also often mistaken for a brothel.

It irritates me that people always assume that the girls are the victims (again SOME really are). But in my observations, it was usually the other way around. I saw a lot of young guys get their heart broken and their wallet emptied. You decide.

And the rape comment……….very rare (this type of thing made command go ape#$%^!).

Besides, there were MP’s all over the place.

Caveat: I don’t know how anyone can cite good references on this one. You can’t just interview people to get the truth. Even most soldiers only know what they are told. You need the trust of those involved and being Caucasian (or especially Negro) will probably prevent it altogether.

I think we should make it clear that the patrons are led to believe the girls are also drinking alcohol, but actually they are drinking non-alcoholic, or diluted drinks. But if you pay a couple bucks they will drink beer and play you a game of quarters.

Why say especially Thailand?

Juicy girls are girls trying to live like everyone else. its just like the army, shitty hours, shitty pay, free home, free food, and no freedom. Some are just lookin for the next dollar. some are lookin for a real relationship. but they are experts at seduction and extortion.

Juicy Girls?

Can somebody tell me when the term "Juicy Girl" came about? I was in Camp Casey, S. Korea from '92-'93, and we always called them "Working Girls." Of course this was over 10 years ago, but most of the girls that worked in the bars were, in fact, Korean. The Phillipenos worked the clubs on the Camp.
