As a sociological writer, this person seems to be interesting, is she a romance author, or does she focus on the city life? --Masssiveego 07:10, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I really wish 170.161.69.18 would stop vandalizing this page. Stlom 00:24, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

She's not a "romance author." Cofer writes literary fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. She's widely respected and has won some major awards for her work. User:jpoetaster 6.6.06

Death (December 30, 2016); and a note on "Spanish naming customs"

[edit]

Ms. Cofer died on December 30, 2016, according to multiple reliable sources. I have updated the entry accordingly.

It appears that this entry is mistaken in stating that (as in the name of, e.g., Fidel Castro Ruz) "This name uses Spanish naming customs: the first or paternal family name is Ortiz and the second or maternal family name is Cofer."

Rather, the subject's use of her full name follows a common American pattern (as in the name of, e.g., Hillary Rodham Clinton): That is to say, Ortiz was JOC's birth surname or maiden name, and upon marrying she took the surname of her husband, Charles John Cofer.

I will be correcting the error upon finishing this note.

Information Regarding Line of the Sun Book

[edit]

What is some of the commentary that the author has given on her book, Line of the Sun, and what critical reception/praise did her work receive in 1989 that it was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize?
