Ugalde's Basque surname and roots

[edit]

Ugalde, though having been born in Andalusia, has obviously (because of his Basque surname) Basque roots, either in the Spanish controlled Basqueland or in the French controlled one. The surname comes from a very common toponym all over the Basque Country (or Euskal Herria, in Basque language) that means "near the water" or "by the water" (from Basque language "Ur", water, and "-alde", close to; in composition ur+ alde becomes uralde, uhalde, ugalde, ubalde...). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.39.218.10 (talk) 13:06, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
