Edits have been made which I think address the original problems Jochrome (talk) 01:05, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
I now understand the problem with external links and will remove them (e.g. GIGA) in the article
If there is any question on notability, I wanted to emphasize that J Lopez coined the term "NUMT", which is now recognized as an important and common genomic phenomenon across the evolutionary histories of multiple organisms (plant and animals).
- @Jochrome: Please read WP:NPROF there are specific things we look for to establish notability. Coining a term is not on the list. ~Kvng (talk) 14:51, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Kvng: Point well taken. But more importantly its the nearly universal "NUMT" phenomenon of nuclear mtDNA transpositions that were highlighted by the original publication, which now has >500 citations in molecular biology and evolutionary peer reviewed studies.
- @Jochrome: WP:NPROF #1 can be satisfied by highly cited work. A quick-and-dirty assessment can be made by examining h-index or similar. I am unable to readily find this information for this subject. ~Kvng (talk) 15:52, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Kvng: Although H indexes are not widely accepted by the scientific community as the best basis for measuring scholarship, they do provide some quantitative metric. Looking at the current Google Scholar metric, Dr. Lopez's h index is a respectable 27, and i10-index is 40. I don't know how to do it, but it would be interesting to see what quartile ranking these are compared to other scientists in his field. Qualitatively, his top citations are often first authored (another measure of scholarship), and his work has also been cited in several textbooks by reputable scholars - e.g Masotoshi Nei (molecular evolution) and Jeffrey Levinton (marine biology).
- @Jochrome: That is respectable and may be enough to accept. Can you provide a link for this information? ~Kvng (talk) 15:05, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Kvng: The H index is available by searching his name on Google Scholar. I believe the link is https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=fVgMZ50AAAAJ&hl=en&authuser=2
A link to the Nei book is - https://www.ebooks.com/en-us/430494/molecular-evolution-and-phylogenetics/masatoshi-nei-sudhir-kumar/
Several external links have now been removed — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jochrome (talk • contribs) 22:39, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
