eBow

It appears that he uses an eBow, especially on "See You Soon." Should this be added to equipment? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmcw (talkcontribs) 01:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

comparisons

"His stylistic [..] sound has led to many comparisons with the playing of U2's The Edge." What... who...? Jonny is an absolutely different guitarist with different style, manners and approach plus it doesn't even sound close to Edge. Who has said that it sounds like The Edge? Must be one of the magazines trying to compare and throw things in one big mess, like they usually do, if so, citation needed; but in that case- it still doesn't mean anything, I don't think wikipedia should support magazine rants. Jonny's playing speaks for itself. Please consider deleting this weird comparison. It seems to be thrown in place where it shouldn't be, this is an encyclopedia after all. Spurred on by the Stone Roses

Does this mean inspired by the Stone Roses, or did the Stone Roses actually encourage him? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.86.153.210 (talk) 02:14, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Jonny's guitars

Jonny mostly used the Fender Stratocaster during the Mylo Xyloto era and touring cycle. You can see him using the Stratocaster as his main guitar for live performances between 2011-2012. Every album after Mylo Xyloto, he split between playing the Telecaster and Stratocaster fairly evenly, if you watch Coldplay's performances on YouTube

Source: numerous YouTube videos of professional and fan-made video of live performances can be found easily, proving this .There are also several trusted internet pages dedicated to documenting musician's gears that show the guitars that Jonny uses. Tvil999 (talk) 13:21, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Guitar style

The present version of the article says "Buckland's guitar style is mainly based on U2's The Edge's guitar sound, which consists mainly of ringing, conservative notation, various amps and distorters, and musical rawness." First, I've played guitar for some 40 years, but I have no idea what a "ringing, conservative notation" is. Second, is it Buckland's style which is based on the devices listed, or is it The Edge's? The way it is stated now, it appears to me to be the latter. Furthermore, no sources explicitly state that Buckland himself consciously based his sound on The Edge. The Edge's statement merely says that he hears himself in Buckland.

A Wikipedia entry for the guitarist in one of the world's biggest rock bands surely could do better? KaldeFakta68 (talk) 19:37, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

I just changed "mainly based on" to "notably similar to", which I think should be good enough for now, as it leaves it ambiguous as to whether or not Jonny intentionally bases his sound on The Edge's. Also, I believe that a "ringing, conservative notation" refers to a sparse style of playing where notes are allowed to ring out, as opposed to a playing style that involves a lot of crazy and fast notes. 2601:58D:301:C060:592D:F5C6:8090:62E4 (talk) 19:03, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Lead additions

This stuff about his character and musical style is not necessarty in the lead. Nor is detail about his primary school music lessons. This info is not being deletred from the article, but it's unecessary and iappropriate for the summary.Unbh (talk) 04:46, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

I'm pretty good with the lead as it stands right now. Can we declare consensus and move on? Let's just leave the article alone, we already got warnings over it.

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a. (prose, spelling, and grammar):
    Remarkable.
    b. (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    a. (reference section):
    b. (citations to reliable sources):
    c. (OR):
    d. (copyvio and plagiarism):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a. (major aspects):
I notice on the band's article that Buckland gives specific credit to the Stone Roses as inspiration to play the guitar. Including that same sentiment here would be useful.
    b. (focused):
I don't think adding the Jay-Z and McCulloch guest appearances to the discography section are really appropriate, we should remove those. The discography is for more extensive involvement; I could perhaps hear the argument that since Jonny's own discography isn't big enough for its own that we could make a table involving the tracks he was involved with instead, but it's not appropriate to just list the albums. It gives the wrong idea if the reader didn't go to look at the body (and let's face it, many will do that).
Those are the songs, they just redirect to the album that they were on. Cherrell410 (talk) 18:47, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

Very nice work! Just a few short things. dannymusiceditor oops 16:20, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

I didn't understood exactly what you want me to do regarding the Stone Roses, should I add what Buckland said on the style section? As for the discography section, I think including the track with a link to the album would be the best option, you said it yourself: not everyone will look into the article's body! Reference 291 in Coldplay - sourced to NME - says something about the Stone Roses being the main reasons Jonny learned to play guitar. dannymusiceditor oops 17:39, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
Added it to early life! GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 18:25, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
