Where does the Rhys come from?
[edit]I understand he gets the Meyers name from his mother and thus, technically, he cannot have "changed" his name, as the article says, to Meyers as Meyers would be on his birth certificate. Nonetheless, where does the Rhys part come from?
- "Meyers" is his mother's maiden name. His birth certificate presumable has his surname as "O'Keeffe", since that is his father's last name (and mother's married name). I have never heard any explanation for the "Rhys" part, though. CKarnstein 04:52, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
I myself would like to know where Rhys comes from, if anyone know could you please tell us? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mousemickey4 (talk • contribs) 03:59, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Private Life
[edit]I have removed the "Private Life" section. It consisted of a single sentence tying him to Toni Collette, but their relationship ended seven years ago. Rhys Meyers has since dated several other women and Collette has married, so I think it is a bit misleading to focus on their past romance here. Someone could write a more up-to-date account of his love life, but I don't think this would add anything worthwhile to the article. As Rhys Meyers is unmarried and his love life has not been the subject of much public interest, I don't see any point in mentioning it here. CKarnstein 05:03, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree with you, I found that piece of information interesting and it surprised me. Articles should be expanded upon, not deleted, I kindly invite you to expand on that part since you seem to be quite knowledgeable in that area. Gryffindor 00:53, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
According to a close member of his family the Rhys doesn't come from anywhere in particular. it just sounded good
Inconsistency & unnecessary info
[edit]Does that information about his penis really have to be here? And secondly, why would it be under "early life"? Also, Bending it like Beckham is referenced twice, but with two different years (picture caption: 2003, text: 2002). 80.43.10.57 21:56, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
I am curious about the fact that his mother died 3 days after he was supposedly arrested on Nov 18, 2007, when he just did a live interview on "The View" on Nov 21, 2007, which would make it the day she died, how can this be?
The View interview was pre-taped the week before his mother died and then aired the day before Thanksgiving. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90minutes (talk • contribs) 02:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Is this information about Rhys Meyers' personal life not possibly libellous, slander, or harmful? Has anyone reviewed this page to check if it is up to the standard on Living Persons? Thanks, Jed
I note that "The Ultimate Gift", a Hallmark film, is not listed on Jonathan's accomplishments nor the year it was produced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.254.233.93 (talk) 13:50, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Photo
[edit]I have restored the "Bend it Like Beckham" photo that used to be at the top of the article. It seems to have been removed accidentally by an anonymous user a few edits back. CKarnstein 06:42, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Why isn't his new show on there? It's called 'The Tudors' on showtime. Iman S1995 02:59, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Confusion about relationships
[edit]I know that on here he quotes saying that he is currently not dating anyone; yet in two recent publications (Marie Clarie and OK! Magazine) it claims that he is dating "someone" and Reena Hammer. Confusion? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Diet (talk • contribs) 01:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC).
Who he is currently dating or not dating or who he has been rumored to be dating is not something that this article should focus on. It's not encyclopedic unless one of his affairs causes a particular, multi-documented news story.LeSaint 01:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Ive changed it to Reena Hammer (2004-present) They were together at the 2010 BAFTAS and I think that is proof enough they are still together. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.209.140.209 (talk) 11:22, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Early Life
[edit]The articel claims he was born in County Cork, but then moved to County Cork a year after his birth. Where was he born? Did he move within the county after a year? Any information about what town? omnijohn 20:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
–––––––– He was born in Dublin but raised in Cork City. His family is from Cork, I have not heard why his parents were in Dublin for his birth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90minutes (talk • contribs) 02:38, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Steerpike.jpg
[edit]Image:Steerpike.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Pronunciation
[edit]It's not obvious how to pronounce "Rhys". (Is it like rice, reese, riss? I don't know.) It would be nice if someone who knows how it's pronounced added this to the article somewhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.166.47.147 (talk) 15:10, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
according to the imdb trivia, Rhys is pronounced 'reese'

Androgeny?
[edit]I removed the part about him being best known for "Androgenous appearance". Based on the cited article this seems to be more a directorial, artsy, film school kind of thing that transfers to the screen. He looks like a man to me and anyone with eyes. He looks a little queer, but not at all like a woman. If you don't know him from any of his work, you probably won't know him as "that androgenous looking guy", you just won't know him. 67.103.26.174 (talk) 06:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC) Resembles Malcolm Mcdowell to me! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.162.243.227 (talk) 04:09, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
Early life: spoken every day
[edit]I removed this line from Early Life:
- They had spoken every day for several years.
It's not cited, it doesn't specify who's talking, and doesn't seems to add much to to the paragraph. (Maybe instead something cited about how he's still close to his brothers...) --Daev (talk) 17:45, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
O'Keefe or O'Keeffe, Myers or Meyers
[edit]I haven't been able to find consistent information about the correct spelling of his birth name and his mother's maiden name so far. Where can we find reliable information about this?--Sylvia Anna (talk) 19:00, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Surname
[edit]Is his surname Rhys-Meyers or Rhys Meyers? Could it be standardised through the article, or a note added explaining that he is known by both? Njál 01:28, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
His surname is not hyphenated. This is direct from Rhys Meyers himself in response to a question at the Golden Globes Awards backstage interviews.
If 'anything is possible' in the future he would be bi.. But whatever! Is his surname pronounced like 'Reese' Meyers or like 'Rice' Meyers?
- If it is supposed to be the Welsh it appears to be, then it is pronounced "reece".FlaviaR (talk) 09:29, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
If his surname is not hyphenated, the article must be re-named. If you can source his quote at the Golden Globes, do so in explaining the move, and move it. Also, guys, sign your posts. LeSaint 00:48, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Also, if it's not hyphenated, it's not a surname (unlike van Dyke, etc.). The article inconsistently calls him both "Meyers" and "Rhys Meyers." I think "Meyers" is sufficient, so I guess I'll fix that. Krychek (talk) 14:22, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Edit war?
[edit]Is there an edit war regarding news of Rhys-Meyers' possible suicide attempt and hospitalisation? -Mardus (talk) 15:28, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Marriage
[edit]Jonathan Rhys Meyers married actress and producer Mara Lane. In December of 2016 they had a son Wolf Rhys Meyers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karmakarma123 (talk • contribs) 00:56, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- You've violating WP:NOTTABLOID and WP:BLP by making uncited claims that only appear in non-RS tabloids. Also, you're violating WP:BLPNAME by inserting the purported name of a minor child when neither the parents nor their representatives have confirmed this. And you are edit-warring in order to revert to these violative edits. --Tenebrae (talk) 03:19, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
