Possible updates

[edit]

{{Request edit}} I have received an email from Gregory. He is aware of the rules on conflict of interest. He has registered as Mreydhon (talk · contribs) and has submitted possible updates to this page at User:Mreydhon/sandbox - "I have prepared some possible updates for my page. These consist of correcting a few things, adding a few things, and substituting a couple of more recent references. In the revised page, I have indicated deletions by [delete: ...] and new text in bold."

Since Gregory is a personal friend I would prefer an impartial editor to review the proposed changes. If no-one has done so by mid-August I will edit the article myself. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:50, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping for a more detailed response, as I am well aware of the two pages you have linked. Working through the proposed changes:
  • Change "Met Office Fellow in the climate-change group at the Hadley Centre" > "Met Office Science Fellow in climate change at the Hadley Centre". The current version has no explicit source. I propose to use the wording "Research Fellow in climate change at the Met Office Hadley Centre" from Understanding Climate Change - Met Office. This is not an independent source, but I suggest that this change is not controversial in any way.  Done
  • Change "predicted that run-away melting of the Greenland ice sheet could start within 50 years, resulting in its total meltdown over the next 1000 years and a rise in the global sea-levels by 7 meters" > "predicted that the Greenland ice sheet is likely to be eliminated as a consequence of global warming, resulting in a rise in global sea-levels by 7 meters over the next 1000 years or more". This is currently sourced to the BBC and to the New Scientist. The new wording is supported by the New Scientist source. Done
  • Change "IPCC 2001 IPCC Third Assessment Report" > "IPCC 2001 Third Assessment Report". This just eliminates a duplicate "IPCC". Done
  • Change "to the SAR chapter" > "to the sea level chapter in the IPCC Second Assessment Report". This can be sourced to page 58 (PDF page 68) of Bolin, B.; et al. (1995). "IPCC Second Assessment: Climate Change 1995. A Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change" (PDF). IPCC website. Retrieved 2011-08-29. {{cite web}}: Explicit use of et al. in: |author= (help)  Done
  • Add: "and chapter 10 Global Climate Projections<ref>Chapter 10: Global Climate Projections, IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, 2007, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Accessed July 29, 2011 </ref>". This proposed addition is sourced. Done
  • Change: "an Advanced Fellowship grant by the European Research Council" > "an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council to carry out research on sea level change". This is currently sourced to Jonathan Gregory, researcher profile and the new wording is consistent with that source. Done
  • Add: "In addition to sea level change, Gregory has worked in recent years... (etc)". This has no source and cannot be added.
  • Selected publications: The proposed changes include the deletion of two of these and the addition of two new ones.
  • I have just made the two corrections to the URLs in the External Links section. The NCAS link probably fails WP:EL though.  Done Removed per WP:EL. My76Strat (talk) 05:51, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
