Use of opinion on whether Kaplan was lenient in the France v England game? Hardly a fact ?

Jonothan Kaplan should be banned from refereeing due to being so biased. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.40.227.81 (talk) 18:57, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comments such as the preceding are not appropriate here.-- Jimmy Pitt (talk) 16:26, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathon O'Kaplan has been shown to be extremely biased over many years —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.69.199.127 (talk) 16:03, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense! It's true that a few days ago one of England's coaches came close to accusing him of bias in the Wales v England match, but compare that with Planet Rugby's comments in its report on the same game: "First let's give Jonathan Kaplan a well deserved mention. A lot has been said of the standard of the officials of late, but this was a fine display from the South African. He controlled the breakdown and allowed the game to flow. Well done sir, take a bow on behalf of referees."
Jonathan Kaplan (not Jonathon O'Kaplan) has made mistakes, just like every other referee, but he wouldn't be ranked as one of the top referees in the world if those who assess and rank referees suspected even for a moment that he was biased. And as he has refereed more test matches than any other rugby union referee, it's pretty clear that the sport's administrators don't share your opinion. Unless you can cite a reliable source to demonstrate his bias (and I don't regard the whinges of losing coaches and fans as "reliable"), such comments (which verge on libel) have no place here. In this regard I refer you to the box at the top of this page and to WP:DISCUSSION, which advises that "Talk pages are for discussing the article, not for general conversation about the article's subject".- Jimmy Pitt (talk) 17:15, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
