Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.
If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)
I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I will use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.
Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs)
Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.
Immediate Failures
[edit]It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria
-It contains copyright infringements
-It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include{{cleanup}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}} or large numbers of {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar tags. (See also {{QF-tags}}).
-It is not stable due to edit warring on the page.

[edit]Lede
[edit]- Lede is a little underlinked. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Linked the British, Commonwealth and European titles to champion lists, but there's not much that really requires linking other than that I would say. Kosack (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Link for George Sutton (boxer) Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- That's Sutton Sr, Owen fought Sutton Jr. Kosack (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- No article for Welsh bantamweight championship? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Not that I can find, not even a list of champions. Kosack (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Link to List of British bantamweight boxing champions Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Added, per first comment. Kosack (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- All of the title belts are surely notable? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure, boxing's not my speciality, I simply took an interest in Owen. I would assume they would already have articles by now if they were required. Kosack (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- 120 fights and representing Wales. - How so? Surely he's Welsh, so would defacto represent Wales. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- I was referring more to a similar style to football, he was selected to represent Wales in amateur tournaments for example. Kosack (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Almería should be noted as being in Spain. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC) - Added
- The lede should probably go into more detail about the death, legacy, and probably mention his 25-2-1 record. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Expanded a little. Kosack (talk) 12:31, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Where is his heigh cited in the body? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Added cite. Kosack (talk) 12:31, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
General
[edit]- Johnny Owen was born John Richard Owens - do we need to mention both names here? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Given that he fought under pseudonym, a slight one admittedly, I thought it prevalent to begin the article with his full birth name, similar to Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson etc. Kosack (talk) 12:31, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Underlinking is an issue in the body as well as the lede. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- I've added one or two links where I can find them but there's not an awful lot really worth linking from what I can see. Kosack (talk) 18:32, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Penwaunfawr is a populated place, so should be redlinked. Surprised there's no article. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC) - Linked
- 12 Heol Bryn Selu on Gellideg housing estate - is that an exact address. I think this goes past our scope for biographies. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Dropped the number but I think the rest is suitable. Kosack (talk) 18:32, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Could you link box. I realise it's an article on boxing, but it's still worth doing, especially as box has other meanings. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC) - Linked
- Amateur boxing could be higher in the section Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC) - Moved
- His record was strong but not without blemish - we shouldn't be stating this, unless a quote. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC) - Trimmed
- MOS:FLAG says we shouldn't have flags without some sort of WP:ACCESS info for them. I'd remove the ones for the locations (as it's flag-cruft, and change the flagicon to {{flagathlete}}. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Removed flags. Kosack (talk) 18:55, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- The way you've done single linking is very weird. WP:OL doesn't say that you can't link every entry in a table, but if you don't, at least do it from top to bottom (actually, why isn't the table in chronilogical order?). Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- It seems I accidentally linked the first mention while building the table from his first fight onwards which resulted in that error. Fixed now. Fighter's results are typically displayed in descending date order, from last to first. Kosack (talk) 18:55, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Comments
[edit]- Automated note - If you fancy returning the favour, I have outstanding GA nominations that require reviewing at WP:GAN. I'd be very grateful if you were to complete one of these, however it's definitely not mandatory. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs)
- I've added some basic points above. I would like to see some additional links, and a bit more added to the lede. - on hold. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:27, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: Thanks for the review Lee, I've responded to all of the comments above. Let me know what you think. Kosack (talk) 18:55, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Apologies, I forgot to close this one. Great job. Promoting. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:35, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
