Was he born in Brazil or in USA? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.58.125.24 (talk) 16:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spouse name incorrect

[edit]

The spouse is incorrect in the article, which inexplicably names Patsy Kelly as the spouse.

Johnnie Davis was my father-in-law from 1962 until his death in 1983, and I was present when he died at Balmorhea State Park in far west Texas. We were accompanied by my 10-year-old son Reid on a road trip (not a hunting trip) to Big Bend National Park. Johnnie died in his sleep at the state park, and was transported by the county about 45 miles to the coroner's office at the county seat in Pecos, Texas, where his death was recorded.

Johnnie married Martha Lee Garver on April 1, 1934. They had three daughters: Judith Lee, Nancy Lind (my wife), and Susan Jane. Johnnie Davis and Martha Lee (known as I.E.) Davis were married 49 years until his death.

The birthplace of Johnnie Davis is correctly identified in the article as Brazil, Indiana, which is a city in southwest Indiana near Terre Haute, Indiana. The city name, Brazil, leads some to incorrectly think he was born in Brazil, South America. He was definitely born in Indiana, USA, and his father was a music professor at Indiana University.

His wife I.E. was born in nearby Terre Haute, Indiana, to Ross and Jennie Lee Garver. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kphilmi (talkcontribs) 04:39, 16 May 2014

Hello! I'd be happy to edit the article and correct it if you could provide some kind of source? Thank you! cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 07:25, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou for that. :) It seems that there was some subtle vandalism added in February that no one picked up. At this stage I've removed Patsy Kelly as that was clearly wrong. I'd like to add Martha Lee Garver, as I agree with everything said above, but without a source adding it would go against guidelines (which should have stopped Patsy Kelly from sneaking in, but didn't). I'll dig a bit and see if I can find something to help, but in the meantime at least the article isn't incorrect any more. - Bilby (talk) 00:57, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Kphilmi, cymru.lass, and Bilby, I am more than six years late joining this discussion, but I have added Martha Lee Garver as Davis's wife. I found two newspaper articles that mention their marriage. Eddie Blick (talk) 19:36, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for doing that. I'd rather have no information than wrong information, but having the right information is best of all. :) - Bilby (talk) 12:07, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
