Last Vermonter to run for President before Dean?

[edit]

Should this line in the Phelps bio be chanegd?

Phelps was on the ballot in 1880.

But George Edmunds was a candidate at the 1884 Republican convention.

George Aiken may not have been a declared candidate for the 1940 Republican nomination, but he had an active campaign operating -- supposedly without his knowledge -- from 1937 until he ended it in 1938 or 1939.

Thoughts?
