Benny Peiser

[edit]

In a very brief letter to the Observer recently Benny Peiser expressed regret for misquoting Houghton, and then in the very next sentence attributed a further quote to Houghton. Peiser's authority on Houghton already being compromised, it would be unwise to accept Peiser's word for it, particularly as he fails to cite the work from which he purports be quoting Houghton this time around. I've therefore removed the reference. The purported quotation should not be re-inserted without very good reason and excellent sourcing. --TS 12:04, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ciphergoth's edit

[edit]

I must commend Ciphergoth on this edit. His edit summary hits the facts right on the nose. It is not up to us to repeat the errors of others, at least not to the extent of portraying opinion as fact. --TS 16:30, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too many quotations?

[edit]

I'm concerned this article may contain too many quotations: it currently has 7, plus the false one often attributed to Houghton. While these quotations may serve to illustrate Houghton's views on climate change, having too many of them becomes unhelpful; lengthy lists of quotations belong on Wikiquote, not Wikipedia. Some, or possibly all, of these should be removed; it would be better if they were rewritten to describe Houghton's views rather than simply quoting him. Ironically, the one which should definitely stay is the false one, as it's unarguably notable in its own right. Robofish (talk) 12:46, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Misled by the internet"

[edit]

Thanks whoever inserted the direct Booker quote, that he was "misled by the internet". That's an extraordinary thing for an aspiring scholar to say. --TS 15:19, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
