The result of the move request was: moved. I always find it interesting when articles get expanded like this. Jenks24 (talk) 04:35, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
John Scott (cricketer, born 1841) → John Scott (English judge) – Sir John Scott was much better known for his career as a judge than for his apparently undistinguished appearance in only 4 first-class cricket matches.
This article was created (by User:BlackJack) as a well-formed stub on a cricketer, but was later massively expanded by another editor who evidently had more sources available, and turned it into a much more rounded biography. Scott's obituary in The Times (here, subscription required) is over 400 words long, but only 16 words discuss his cricket career.
Note that John Scott, 1st Earl of Clonmell was a notable Irish judge, so John Scott (judge) would be an incomplete disambiguation. However, Sir John Scott spent most of his career in Egypt and India, and is best known for his work in Egypt, so a more appropriate title might be something along the lines of John Scott (British colonial judge). The neatest unambiguous title would be Sir John Scott (judge), which is permissible per WP:NCPEER#4, but rarely used. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:20, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
- Support. There have been several similar cases with a cricket bio stub later being linked to another career. Jack | talk page 16:54, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
- I hope that the nom didn't appear critical of you, Jack. You wrote the stub quite properly, with the info you had available -- and you note, biogs often shift emphasis as more sources are found and articles develop. I did one yesterday: William Cockburn, minor cricketer to knighted banker. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:39, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- Support. But it also needs a substantial rewrite as large parts seem to have been imported wholesale from another source, and are written in a strangely arch style. I've had a go a couple of times, but have retired, daunted. Johnlp (talk) 18:50, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
