Dispute protection
[edit]Ladies/Gentlemen this is getting beyond a joke, I have fully protected the page for a time so that you can discuss the content of the article and to attempt to reach a compromise solution as to what it should say. Should it be Ireland or the Republic of Ireland? Keith D (talk) 00:05, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Are you kidding me? It's Republic of Ireland...no if's, and's or but's about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.196.5.22 (talk) 21:16, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Edit request
[edit]editprotected See the Roy Keane talk page where it has been agreed to pipelink to Ireland in the infobox and intro like this edit. The talk page shows that the edit complies to Wikipedia policy and is the right thing to do.
- I have requested clarification of the guideline, as on my reading, it does not cover this case the guideline specifically only covers geographic locations and is limited to their lead sections. The use of this in a biographical article is not covered there, please update the guidelines to cover the situation. Keith D (talk) 22:54, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Not done. That looks like an edit war to me, not agreement. Controversial. - Revolving Bugbear 04:32, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- There is consensus for the change on Talk:Roy Keane, why is this article different?HellBhoy (talk) 19:25, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- As I have stated above the guidelines are not clear and I have requested that the guidelines be clarified before the change is made. Please reach agreement and make appropriate changes at the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ireland-related articles). Keith D (talk) 19:32, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Note, this editor is a blocked sockpuppeteer (see User:Wikipéire). Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Who wrote this?
[edit]Because they are clearly idiots and/or biased fans. Take out the part about scoring as much as Shevchenko because there are hundreds of players he scored more goals than in the Premiership. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.68.177 (talk • contribs) 18:05, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Playing position
[edit]editprotected O'Shea's list of playing positions in the infobox should read "Full back
Centre back
Defensive midfielder". Any chance that someone could change this for me? – PeeJay 15:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

John O'Shea
[edit]It's quite common but lacking in important detail to ignore John O'Shea's contribution for 2006, that is, as a central midfielder for United in the League Cup FInal of 2006 as well as the rest of that season. Statisticians tend to leapfrog commentary on his career - as here - from his appearance in the FA Cup final against Millwall in 2004 to his contribution to the Premiership Crown of 2007. It's important because 2006 saw him excel as a midfield player rather than a defender. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.196.173.201 (talk) 14:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Vandalism
[edit]"In 2003–04, United were without Rio Ferdinand after he began a suspension for missing a drugs test in January, and O'Shea took over from Ferdinand in central defence, helping United reach the FA Cup Final where they triumphed 3–0 over Millwall.SUCKS ALOT OF PENIS :)" i'm pretty sure that shouldn't be there, i can't edit it because i forgot my password ages ago so i just thought i'd bring this to someone's attention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.23.111.108 (talk • contribs) 17:48, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Liverpool Fan
[edit]A not too interesting fact but O'Shea is actually a big Liverpool fan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.86.71.241 (talk) 10:31, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- It was mentioned that he grew up as a Liverpool fan when he was young during the game on Sunday, but I very much doubt that he has retained that support considering he plays for Liverpool's biggest rivals (no offence, Everton fans, but United are far bigger rivals to Liverpool than you are). – PeeJay 09:48, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
"Captained his club for the first time"
[edit]It says he captained his club for the first time in both the 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 seasons; surely a first time can only happen once? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.112.246.230 (talk) 03:11, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Typo
[edit]"an Irish" not "a Irish" on the first line. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.141.4.187 (talk) 14:29, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
'Was cheated out of its place'
[edit]Doesnt sound like the sort of thing I'd usually read on a Wikipedia article, need to replace it with something more neutral, sounds like an Ireland fan himself wrote it.
Request removal of lock
[edit]I edited the page this afternoon to state that O'Shea made his "38th league appearance as of 3 November". That edit was then reverted, to add a timestamp. How is correctly editing his stats "vandalism"? How did I vandalise his page exactly? If you're going to lock his page, at least be honest about the real reasons as to why it is being locked, not because of vandalism (because there clearly was none to begin with) but because of childishness and spite. I edited his page corrctly and promptly this afternoon and then some troll with no life comes along and reverts it, even though appearances, goals and date is correct and factual. That is vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.44.243.44 (talk) 00:41, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- You have a habit of reverting the correct timestamping on the football articles that you edit and as such that is disruptive editing and classed as vandalism. Having timestamps as you want them against the normal which is the consensus of the football project. If you stop changing the timestamps in such a way as to be against consensus then the locks can be removed. We have to lock the pages as you keep changing your IP so a block would be ineffective. Keith D (talk) 01:48, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Stats recheck
[edit]I'm pretty sure that O'Shea hasn't scored 69 goals for Sunderland in 61 appearances. Can someone check and resolve the issue? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.73.216.191 (talk) 20:14, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Under coaching career
On Thursday 9th of December 2022 announced in a statement from the FAI, O’Shea was amongst the latest class to receive a UEFA Pro License. [1] 87.210.39.27 (talk) 23:23, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- Done; I added another ref to confirm it was "that" John O'Shea and not another coach of the same name. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 14:14, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
