[edit]

I have found sourced evidence which conflicts with the information located in John Hyatt's family section, especially regarding "Hyatt had at least one son, Charles..." , "Of Hyatt's parents, little is known other than that his father" and "There is no trace of his demise." These are cited using a book on https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Stanley_Portal_Hyatt, who was born 110 years after John Hyatt, and who was John's great-grand-nephew. I find this especially strange as a very good website: www.hyattfamily.co.uk was cited earlier in the John Hyatt page. I would recommend that this section of the family section of John Hyatt's is rewritten using relevant facts, for example (http://www.hyattfamily.co.uk/ppl/3/3/d03775f322e392e6bcf67242033.html) which is John Hyatt's page. The statement "Of Hyatt's parents, little is known other than that his father was abandoned as a young man when his own father left for the East Indies from Sherborne. There is no trace of his demise" is also proven wrong given we know of his great-great-grandfather (also named John Hyat), and he died in Sherborne Dorset in 1797. The Charles Hyatt mentioned in the section is also actually John's brother rather than son. I will endeavour to rectify these faults with permission — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noad7 (talkcontribs) 20:53, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed the biographical details are poorly sourced. No permission is needed to improve the article, although the family website can't be considered a reliable source (WP:RS) since it isn't independently published. -- Wire723 (talk) 10:39, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have put in a link to the DNB article on Wikisource, replacing the previous reference 3. It looked corrupt to me - was there an 1828 "Dictionary of National Biography"? But perhaps a reference to the memoir by Morison was meant. Charles Matthews (talk) 21:25, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
