Removed line about "Best PM we ever had"
[edit]I removed the 2nd sentence of the article (see older version of article here), which said:
"He was notable as a lively, good-humoured, honest and generally popular politician, and has been accoladed as "the best PM Australia never had".[1]"
- ^ Ramsey, Alan (2008-04-08). "John Button, the best PM we never had". The Sydney Morning Herald. Retrieved 2008-04-08.

It seemed to be too gushing with praise, and the PM line was also confusing. However, the Alan Ramsey article in the citation may have some useful facts to be re-used elsewhere. Thanks, Lester 04:26, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think the article could use some more feeling. It would be nice if it could get worked iback in somehow. Maybe line is too gushing. Probably too gushing for the lead. However, I'm sure I've heard it said before, back in the 1990s. See http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/07/09/1026185041126.html for example. Maybe it was only Ramsey who ever said it, repeatedly? I also remember an interview in which Button discussed the notion that he might have been a PM. Strangely, I was well aware of John Button, but not of the The Button Car Plan. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:24, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Date of death
[edit]Someone keeps on insisting he died today, 8 April. Where is the evidence for that date, or, indeed, any other date? -- JackofOz (talk) 06:08, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed. The Ramsey obituary editorial linked above is dated April 5th, despite being published April 8th. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:53, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- The best I've seen anywhere is "overnight", which could mean either 7th or 8th April. Perhaps he died in his sleep, his actual moment of death was not witnessed, and he was found dead this morning. If that's the case, only his death certificate will be able to say on which date he actually died, based on a medical estimate. -- JackofOz (talk) 10:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe he died from heart problems on the 7th or 8th but im pretty sure he died on the 8th. The obituary might have been a typo in some cases or he might of posted his death before he died Maybe. We will have to wait for his death certificate to find out the exact date of death.--Pookeo9 (talk) 19:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- What leads you to believe ("im pretty sure") he died on the 8th rather than the 7th, Pooke09? Is there anything online that's more definite than "overnight"? -- JackofOz (talk) 22:42, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- We have a date now. His death notice in The Age, from his partner and family, said he died on the 8th. -- JackofOz (talk) 04:41, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
