Belushi played Jake Blues, not Elwood. Elwood was Aykroyd's character.hi

not sure if anyone else caught this, but it lists Chris Farley as who Belushi was "Influenced by." This is in error. Belushi was dead 4 years before Farley was even out of college, 7 years before he became an active comedian.

Robin Williams not with John on his last days

According to Robin Williams, as interviewed in the book, Live From new York, he never did visit John on the night he died. Someone apparently told him that John was asking for him that night, but (or so he claims) he never did go there. I'm not sure if it's a joke, but the first sentence of Belushi's bio is kinda silly. His father seems to have been in Albania and 10 years old when John was born, in America. So who introduced him to the blues?

This page says the blues music Aykroyd had playing in the background sparked a fascination with blues music in Belushi, who, though a Chicago native himself, was primarily a fan of heavy metal. Dan educated John on the finer points of blues music, and this led to the creation of their popular Blues Brothers characters. The Blues Brothers page claims it was Curtis Salgado. If you check his personal website which is linked from his Wiki page you'll find on the home page a "Belushi Connection" link. This takes you to a lengthy newspaper article which tells the whole story. Belushi is quoted as saying that Salgado entered his life at the right moment. He was "sick of rock and roll" and "needed a place to go. I hadn't heard much Blues before." Expansion

What really needs to be expanded is the "biography" section, the section on his death is just as long as his life! There's something really wrong with that. That's like saying the most important thing he ever did was die. If you want something to write about, try writing about Belushi's experiences filming Neighbors. It's production was very troubled, there were horrible script problems and it was an incredible failure. There is a detailed account of the production in Wired. Also, there is barely anything on Belushi's time at Saturday Night Live, which suprises me because the information should be so incredibly easy to find. Registered user 92

Michael Beck?

"He was born within two weeks of Michael Beck. Both are Aquarians.". What about it? Why is this even on the page? Every famous person in the world was born within weeks of some other famous person, I don't see why this should even be mentioned! What next..."He was born in the same country as Michael Jackson"? I get the feeling this was posted by some Michael Beck fan desperately trying to raise the profile of his page.

Factual accuracy

Is there any more information regarding his time as a student at UW-Whitewater? Samaras

Is his mother's surname really Samaras? That is Greek so surely it should be changed to " first generation Greek American". I know it has been stated on Jim Belushi's talk page and it's even mentioned early on here but it hasn't been answered. Spiderone (talk) 12:27, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Stop the crap .The guy just recently received his honoray Albanian citizenship and has quite openly declared ( see his declaration at David Letterman show) that he is Albanian. The guy above has a problem with Greeks. That much is certain. If you go to Spiderone's page you see he's not Greek. Are the Belushi's Greek? Harder to answer. They might be by blood but it's clear they do not identify as such. They were raised Albanian and yes Jim is rediscovering his Albanian roots.

His mother's name was Samaras and her middle name was Demetri. Her fathers name was Demetri George Samaras and he was born in Greece in 1878; a region that is now in Albania . So it's clear she was Greek by blood at the very least. The father was Albanian although some people have suggested that Belushi is a play on Beloussis; a Greek name. It's possible. It's also possible they were assimilated ; that's not uncommon, right?. But who knows except for the 2 parents. The fact is they were raised Albanian and died Albanian. Unless Jim discovers he has Greek blood, it has to be accepted that he's Albanian and there's nothing wrong with that. I visited his grave on Martha's vineyard about 20 years as well. To the second poster under this heading, I don't think the first poster meant that his visit was the reason the burial site should be mentioned. Some celebrity's graves are mentioned in Wikipedia articles and some are not. Choosing not to print rumor in the absence of fact does not constitute a joke. It constitutes responsible authorship. No authoritative published source has ever established the level or frequency of his drug use. I don't know if he had sleep apnea or not but I do know that sleep apnea is common to overweight people. My brother and I both have had it though my brother had it bad enough to need a machine. It eventually killed him. Belushi/Amy Winehouse Parallels

Yeah, I would just like to comment with regard to the uncanny parallels with regard to Belushi's death and Amy Winehouse's death. Those two are just eerily similar. And also, like Belushi, Winehouse was a phenomenal talent whose private demons/personal life too often overshadowed that same talent. And also, it's unfortunate that some individuals are unfairly branding Winehouse some mere junkie just as there are some people who unfairly thought Belushi was some Bluto-like junkie, when really, nothing could be further from the truth, even though he did have his share of demons. 1975-1979

I removed the claim that: "As several Belushi biographies have noted,[specify] on John's 30th birthday (in 1979), he had the number one film in the U.S. (Animal House), the number one album in the U.S. (The Blues Brothers: Briefcase Full of Blues) and Saturday Night Live was the highest-rated late night television program."

"Animal House" was the number 1 movie the week of July 30th, 1978. It was bracketed before and after by "Grease". The number one album at that time was the "Grease Soundtrack". The Blues Brothers album "Briefcase full of Blues" was the number one album the week of Feb 3rd 1979. It was bracketed by "52nd Street" by Billy Joel and "Blondes Have More Fun" by Rod Stewart. The number one box office movie that week was during the long run of "Superman" at number 1. I don't know which late night TV program was number 1, but I don't doubt that SNL was number 1 at least for Saturdays through this period. John Belushi's birthday is January 24th. So the statement that he had the number 1 in all three categories on his 30th birthday is false. I am a big fan of the work of John Belushi and when I read that it did not seem right. I think I know where this rumor came from. I don't remember who or when, but I seem to recall someone interviewing John and they said something like "Wow, you've had a number one movie, number one album and a number one TV show all before your 30th birthday..." That is not a precise quote, just an approximation of what I recall was said. I don't recall much else of the interview. How about a section on character?

I was wondering about this after encountering what was Bill Murray's eulogy for Belushi. Here's it in part, at least according to Google: 'He was a slob. Did you ever see him eat? Starving children could fill their bellies on the food that ended up on his beard and clothes. Dogs would gather to watch him eat. I never understood gluttony, but I hated it...I hated that about you. He enjoyed disgusting people—being disgusting—that thrill of offending people and making them uncomfortable. He was despicable. He will not be missed.'

Accusations of being "misogynist" during SNL days

According to Jane Curtin, who appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2011, John Belushi was a "misogynist"" while working on SNL. "So you'd go to a table read, and if a woman writer had written a piece for John, he would not read it in his full voice. He felt as though it was his duty to sabotage pieces written by women."

Mention in the Americans
