I am sorry to have to fail this article for the obvious reason that it is hardly more than a stub.

  • Though the article has a few citations, statements like the one that an alternative birthplace may have been Hof an der Saale would still need a citation, for example.
  • Some strange grammar and too few commas.
  • Article content needs organizing. That he may have been born in Hof appears in the midst of material completely unrelated, for example.
  • Article history: first edit summary was: "Created new page to change title, old page to be deleted", please MOVE articles in such cases, to preserve the article's editing history. WP:MOVE

  • I looked at the progression of articles from stub to class C, B, A, Good and Featured and saw this article conformed to most of the requirements for Good, I could not see any mechanism for making it a class A, B or C article so I took the plunge to see if it was any Good.
  • This is a very small topic but comprehensively researched, there is likely little more that can be added to it but I will create a shorter LEAD section that will allow the content to have a place of its own.
  • For an article of this size it is loaded with citations compared to many others much larger, the two un-cited references are referred to by the other authors but I cannot independently verify their content so I did not use them for independent citations. The multiple birthplaces are due to multiple sources of information. It is cited, each paragraph has a citation and the material is arranged by source so that any information can be checked. The two birth places are less than 50km from each other and likely refer to the same locale.
  • The grammar is something I will have to look at, I was trying to be concise.
  • I left the material arranged by source to minimise the number of citations but will try arranging it better.
  • There was only a first draft before it became clear to me that the title should have his full name and not just his initials, I did not have permission to move it and I did ask for advice. I created the first version of the page, it only existed for a few days and it has never lost any data, only grown as I have located new references. A redirect from JC_Ritter was put in place to cover for any linking to the early page or the popular way he is referred to in the references.

On further investigation perhaps it it's present state it would only have rated a B-Class but the content, citations and research should be adequate for a Class-Good article, there being possibly no more new data to be found and only my editorial issues are wanting.

On the page Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment there is no links to indicate how an article can strive for Class-Start, Class-C, Class-B and I did puzzle about it but could find no way to increase the Class on my article without the Class-Good review process. I just thought the Class-Stub status link at the top of the article was perhaps not appropriate and followed the link for more guidance.

Proposer: Idyllic press (talk) 09:52, 3 September 2010 (UTC) A new source has come up to light which will assist with a couple of the uncertainties. I will make edits in a few days.[reply]
