the realm of fine art

[edit]

I cannot find any documentation for this article's claim that Sternfeld has, "been cited as an influence of many contemporary artist after him as bringing color photography into the realm of fine art." In fact, this statement contradicts the role of many other photographers. Accordingly, I am deleting the statement. If another editor finds good documentation of this statement, please feel free to restore. TheMindsEye 16:02, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some text plagiarized from Sternfeld's website

[edit]

I am removing text which was plagiarized or closely paraphrased from the Bio section of Sternfeld's website.

The table below compares the text on Wikipedia with the text from the artist's website:

Wikipedia joelsternfeld.net/bio
Ever since the 1987 publication of his landmark “American Prospects,” Sternfeld’s work has interwoven the conceptual and political, while being steeped in history, landscape theory and his passion for the passage of the seasons. Sternfeld’s is a beautiful and sad portrait of America - ironic, lyrical, unfinished, seeing without judging. Ever since the publication of his landmark study, American Prospects in 1987 his work has maintained conceptual and political aspects, while also being steeped in history, art history, landscape theory and attention to seasonal passage. It is a melancholic, spectacular, funny and profound portrait of America.
He is the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships and spent a year in Italy on a Rome Prize. He currently teaches at Sarah Lawrence College, where he holds the Noble Foundation Chair in Art and Cultural History.
