Tonight, I was thinking about Joe and decided to google his name. To see this note about his Wikipedia article being held up to some bogus controversy is a sad commentary upon the ease with which people's name can be called into question.
Everyone on the poetry scene in New Jersey knows Joe and knows him to be a great guy. If someone disputed something in this Wikipedia article about him, it must be some kid who got a bad grade in one of his classes and decided he had nothing better to do with his time than to throw mud on an innocent person. Folks can find The New York Times article about Joe. I don't think The New York Times would publish some kind of fluff piece without any fact checking. This Wikipedia article does not even begin to do Joe justice. The guy is known in the New Jersey poetry community, not only as a great poet, but a truly and deeply compassionate man. He has spent virtually his entire life giving and giving and giving and giving. He has been mentoring young writers for years for little or no pay; he has been giving poetry readings to raise money for the homeless for years. I could go on and on and on with similar stories about Joe. And just about every single person from the New Jersey poetry scene can do the same thing.
Wiki9898zzz (talk) 01:46, 22 June 2008 (UTC) Let's try to make this a concise bio for a fine American poet with a growing reputation instead of a puff piece. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whalecreek (talk • contribs) 06:46, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Joe is a great poet. I wrote a letter to President Obama requesting he consider Joe to read at the White House...or some Washington event as "Poet Laurette". A question in me asks though, by whose hand was this Wikki bio written? Can a man go on here and decry his own fame, or is it limited to subordinates? Can any man go on here and if he has no mark to fame-make himself so? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ortley (talk • contribs) 19:03, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Much of what comprised this Wikipedia article has been strictly biased opinion. Many of the claims made within cannot be supported by sources because the subject matter is not of widespread interest. Edits made on December 12, 2011 by this IP address: 24.149.152.3 were for the removal of statements tagged for needing of citation from a month ago. There is not enough information on this individual and too much that was written cannot be proven. The article should probably be completely re-written and edited or removed all together until substantial proof of this person’s notoriety can be brought forth. 00:57, 12 December 2011 IP Address: 24.149.152.3 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.149.152.3 (talk)
