Ispahani hangar

[edit]

I see your point, Green Giant. How about a brief mention and a link to PIA's page? I think it's significant enough to get a mention. Waqas.usman 02:08, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with that, but make sure the link goes at the bottom amongst references or external links. Green Giant 03:25, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the link. Waqas.usman 05:17, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Airlines

[edit]

The recent announcement by Lufthansa to resume flights seems to have started a few rumour mills particularly about airlines that are either planning to resume operations or start flights to Karachi. I appreciate this is causing a lot of excitement amongst aviation enthusiasts and there's lots of other airlines being mentioned e.g. Virgin Atlantic, bmi etc. Whilst there's no harm in mentioning them in narrative sections, only those airlines that are actually flying should be mentioned on the airlines list. For example American Airlines was incorrectly listed as flying to Karachi even though there are no plans for it to do so, hence I removed it.

I also want to question the relevance of listing old operators on this page? Is it really necessary to mention them as it doesn't really add any value to the page.

I wanted to point out in the list of former carriers at KHI was Tarom - Romanian Airlines which had its once a week flight with 707 on the sector OTP - KHI - BJS vv (Bucharest/Otopeni - Karachi - Beijing) which by 1998 or so had been rerouted via DEL instead. BTW American Airlines actually flies to KHI, LHE, ISB, and PEW on codeshare basis with its partner Etihad as it places its AA code on the EY flights on the sectors ex-AUH into Pakistan. Kslall8765 (talk) 10:50, 17 June 2008 (UTC) Kslall8765 (talk) 08:20, 19 July 2011 (UTC) I also question the value of listing old operators on this page. It isn't consistent with the airport pages of other cities and I think reference to former operators should be removed. (Tkhan (talk) 23:19, 5 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I have removed the section listing the previous carriers as there was no response to my post above and I really don't feel it was necessary to list this information as it's completely inconsistent with other airport pages on wikipedia (Tkhan (talk) 16:46, 16 July 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

I see that someone has re-added the "previous carriers" section to the article. Please could you use this section to explain why you feel this is of value in this article. I personally feel that it's irrelevant as it's not consistent with articles about other airports. (Tkhan (talk) 21:34, 6 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I have removed the section "previous and terminated destinations", this is not consistent with other airport pages on wikipedia and does not add any value to the article. We should aim for consistency on wikipedia. (Tkhan (talk) 19:30, 3 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I have added codeshare carriers to the list now operating to KHI: i.e. KL operated by GF, UA operated by QR, VV operated by PK, and PK operated by TK and TG. Kslall8765 (talk) 19:06, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What is Karachi Airport's total passenger traffic?

[edit]

The wikipedia article claims "16 million passengers use the airport annually, while the airport itself boasts a capacity of handling up to 22 million passengers in a year."

In 2004-2005 Karachi handled 5.6 million people as per CAA (http://www.caapakistan.com.pk/downloads/Apt_2004-05.pdf)

As per the ACI, the 100th busiest airport in the world was Jeju with 12 million people handled in 2006. Karachi doesn't figure in the top 100 list of world's busiest airports. So it cannot have a traffic of 16 million passengers or a jump of 10 million in one year.

2007 has not yet ended. So 2007 data are not yet in.

Preparing for Good Article review

[edit]

I was asked to have a preliminary look at this article in preparation for GAR. I am not familiar with the Aviation project, so can claim limited expertise. Initial thoughts:

  • History: when was the airport first established?
  • Details of who owns and operates the airport should be in the main body of the text.
  • The article needs some revisions to be consistent with the Manual of Style. The main issue is that it lacks references in general, and in-line citations in particular. There are a lot of facts in this article for which we do not have a source.
  • The Lead needs to be a little longer. I suggest it might include airport foundation date (once known), passenger volumes and number of terminals, in addition to the facts already in the Lead.
  • For an example of an airport article that is not much further advanced than Jinnah, but has better inline citations, see Sydney Airport.

Hope these points help. Cheers. hamiltonstone (talk) 11:33, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Drigh Road Airport

[edit]

I've added an accident which is reported to have occurred at "Drigh Road Airport". As far as I can tell, the airport is now Jinnah. If this is incorrect, please move the accident to the correct article and alter the wl at the HP Hermes article. Mjroots (talk) 21:35, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I seem to have the same feeling, Im adding info on Tata's first flight in India from Bombay to Karachi, Drigh Road Airstrip in 1932. Correct if Im wrong. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 09:18, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article title

[edit]

@Anthony Appleyard and JCPOA: - following the article being moved twice in a week, I've move-protected it. The first move was a technical request, which was apparently challenged and the article returned to its previous, long-term title. Despite the reasons I've had to give when move protecting the article, I do not believe any bad faith is involved here. Any further move should only be done after a full discussion.
