The meaning of cimri
[edit]Both of my sources state that Cimri means “the Leper.” While not denying that cimri in contemporary Turkish means “miser,” it is possible that the word has undergone considerable semantic change since the 13th century. One unpleasant quality over time has come to signify another. I would like to keep the translation "leper." Aramgar 17:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
'cimri's usage as the miser is consistent with the legend about how Cimri got that nickname. According to legend, while running away from Mongolian army after his rebellion is defeated, in disguise of a poor turkmen, he did not get rid of his expensive red boots(appereantly because he is a miser) and got caught because of them and got executed. So when public learned about this story they gave him the nickname Cimri:The Miser
So I am correcting the article ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.102.187.215 (talk) 08:08, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
