more sources?
[edit]I can't figure why the page was tagged with the {{more sources}} tag. This would seem to imply that the editor didn't like something about the existing 12 sources (which include a major newspaper, a national magazine and other sources that easily pass any wikipedia standard) or that they wanted something checked, but were too lazy to insert {{fact}} tags into the text. Was this a hit and run? If not please explain the problem on this talk page.
While we're on the subject, No Depression, issue 56, had a couple of pages on LaFave, and they frequently review his music/shows. -MrFizyx 01:50, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Removing Whole Wheat Radio external link
[edit]I'm curious to know why an external link to artist's information on a community based wiki could be considered spam and yet it's considered within bounds if the link to the commercially tainted Myspace remains? Help me out here! I've been collaborating on Whole_Wheat_Radio for over two years, and our wiki has taken pride in remaining non-hype while building the independent artists a much needed resource. - A discussion has begun on this very subject. You can read it over on Kat67's talk page: User_talk:Katr67#You_may_be_spamming.
The lead paragraphs
[edit]Need to be rewritten according to WP:LEAD. Currently it reads like a magazine article and does not summarize the entire article per WP policy. Please help to fix this. Thanks.-- — Keithbob • Talk • 15:02, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

- Hey Kmz and thanks for your invite and for posting these sources. Per WP:LEAD the opening section is supposed to summarize the entire article and for that reason doesn't normally have citations (although they are permitted when needed). The above sources may be useful anyway so thanks for posting them. I just got a High Beam subscription and there are many articles listed there so as I have time, I'll look through those as well and see if we can expand and improve the article.. I look forward to working together. Cheers!-- — Keithbob • Talk • 15:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Excellent. Thank you! Kmzundel (talk) 15:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Proposed draft for lead
[edit]I propose the following draft for the lead. Any comments, suggestions, things to add??
- Jimmy LaFave (born July 12, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter and folk musician born in Wills Point, Texas. After moving to Austin, LaFave began his musical career and crafted a musical style he calls the "red dirt music" of Oklahoma. He received the Kerrville Folk Festival songwriter of the year award in 1996 and is a regular performer at the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. He has recorded 15 albums including Cimmaron Manifesto which reached the No. 1 mark on the Americana Music Association album chart in 2007. LaFave released his first studio album in 5 years, called Depending On The Distance, in 2012.

Keithbob, I've made a few changes. In addition to below what do you think about including something about his touring schedule - in particular the fact that he has a strong international following and tours internationally once or twice a year??
- Jimmy LaFave (born July 12, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter and folk musician born in Wills Point, Texas. When his family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, LaFave began musical career and crafted a musical style known as "Red Dirt music" while becoming a disciple of Oklahomas's most famous folk musician: Woody Guthrie. As a result, LaFave is a regular performer at the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in addition to serving as an Advisory Board member of the organization that produces the festival. He received the Kerrville Folk Festival songwriter of the year award in 1996, the same year that he made an appearance on Austin City Limits, and has recorded 15 albums. His release Cimarron Manifesto reached the No. 1 mark on the Americana Music Association album chart in 2007. LaFave released the studio album Depending On The Distance in 2012.Kmzundel (talk) 17:08, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
I think your changes are good except I would take out "in addition to serving as an Advisory Board member of the organization that produces the festival" it gives undue weight to a small portion of his career and is too detailed for the lead, which is supposed to summarize. As for the tours.... that would be OK if its given significant coverage in the body of the article and cited to reliable sources. I don't think that's the case at present. So maybe better to leave that out for now and then add later when we have good sourced content to summarize from the body. What do you think? -- — Keithbob • Talk • 17:33, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Both your suggestions make good sense. I think we're good to go. I'll let you have the honors! :-) Kmzundel (talk) 17:40, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- OK I've posted the new lead and removed the tag. I tweaked it a bit, but I think everything you/we wanted is there. :-) -- — Keithbob • Talk • 18:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Awesome! Thank you! Now will you please help nme with John Fullbright?? :-) I've just started to clean it up and add content. Kmzundel (talk) 18:33, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
