Edit Request: Infobox and Proposed New Section
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
NOTE: I’m proposing the following edits for FleishmanHillard on behalf of Caterpillar, Inc. I’m a paid editor and aware of the COI guidelines. I’m proposing the following edits to seek an infobox update and a potential new section about Jim’s board memberships. Please let me know of any questions as you review. Thanks for your time and consideration. Jon Gray (talk) 16:58, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Infobox
- Jim is correctly listed as Caterpillar, Inc.’s CEO, but he also serves as company chairman.[1] As such, we propose adding “Chairman” to his titles in the infobox.
Boards and Memberships (Newly Proposed Section)
- Propose creating a new section called “Board Memberships” and moving the final sentence of the “Career” section (“Umpleby was elected to the board of directors of Chevron…”) into this new section.
- Also propose adding the following passage to this new section (after the sentence mentioned above):
Umpleby also serves on the board of the US-China Business Council[2], the Peterson Institute for International Economics[3]and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.[4]He is also a member of Business Roundtable[5], The Business Council[6] and the National Petroleum Council [7].

Edit Request – Removal of Incorrect Information
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
NOTE: I’m proposing the following edits for FleishmanHillard on behalf of Caterpillar, Inc. I’m a paid editor and aware of the COI guidelines. A couple of recent additions to the article are false, so we are seeking removals on his behalf. Please let me know of any questions as you review. Thanks for your time and consideration. Lead
- An editor added “(The Umpire)” as Jim’s nickname, but that is not true, nor can it be backed by any credible source. As such, I propose removing “(The Umpire)” from the lead sentence.
Biography – Early life and education
- An editor also added the following sentences in this section, which are also erroneous and unsourced: “Upon graduating, he quickly put his mechanical engineering degree to work with multiple inventions. Notable inventions include a refrigerator capable of also heating on the inside, a microwave/tv combo, and a vibrating hammer. He was unable to receive any financial support for his inventions so he quickly gave up his dreams and pursued corporate work.” Jim has not been involved with the creations of these inventions, nor is he credited with any of their patents. As such, and given the lack of sourcing for these claims, I propose removal of these three sentences from the article as well. Jon Gray (talk) 18:53, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Edit request partially implemented
- The requested titles chairman and CEO are already used in the infobox.
- The Board membership section was not added per WP:NOTCV.
- The unreferenced text in the lead and biography sections was deleted as requested.

- @Spintendo Thank you! Jon Gray (talk) 15:32, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Spintendo Apologies for the additional reply/message, but I just noticed that Jim being an inventor is still in the lead, though that also is false. Could you please remove that ("an inventor") as well or do I need to submit another formal request for that change? Thanks. Jon Gray (talk) 22:35, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
