Wikipedia is not a place to contact the person in question. The talk page of an article should be used to improve the article. You might find contact information for jim browning on his youtube about me section, website, etc. ― Levi_OPTalk 17:12, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Being scammed

[edit]

I'm stuck with a scammer who has taken my files and has my computer in his control. He's extorting money from me; if I don't follow his demand he will destroy all of my files. He wants me to transfer money to an account he has not yet divulged. My personal files are very important to me...can you help me? 2607:FEA8:4EC0:F:5890:FF81:F8BE:BB63 (talk) 18:33, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, Jim doesn't watch this page to my knowledge. I would suggest contacting your local authorities. This isn't the page to do that, though. You might find contact information for Jim on his youtube about me section, website, etc. --TheSandDoctor Talk 19:22, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Even if you contacted Jim, he's probably got no way of getting your money back. Scammers use direct-wire services like Western Union or private Bitcoin wallets precisely because it's impossible for any transaction to be reversed, so once they've got your money, you can't get it back. The only thing he can do is warn and advise people not to send scammers any money in advance. This is a good explanation of Ransomware and how basic encryption algorithms work; similarly, the only way to recover your data is to have a backup in advance and restore from that.
