Are finals goes counted consistently?

[edit]

I believe this article has a consistency problem regarding whether or not goals kicked in the finals are included. I haven't looked in great depth, but when I was doing research a few months ago for 1971 VFA Division 1 Grand Final, I discovered that Miller was not the leading goal-kicker in the 1971 home-and-away season (from memory, it was someone from Oakleigh), and he only took the #1 position with finals goals. Aside from casting some doubt in my mind over the usual assertion that Miller was the leading goalkicker six times, there's a general need for clarification or rectification in the article. Does anyone have the resources available to assist? Aspirex (talk) 06:52, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • To answer my own question for prosperity: generally the older tallies and leaders listed in this article are based on the whole season including finals. At some point (possibly with the formal inception of the Frosty Miller Medal itself) it will switch to home-and-away season only. At some point this distinction will need to be made, and I will do this once I have sufficient information. The finals rarely results in the leading goalkicker changing, but it does happen from time to time. (As it turns out, Frosty only won the H&A goalkicking four times, not six. In 1971 he was second behind Bob Johnson, and in 1973 he was third behind Ian Cooper and Graeme McLean) Aspirex (talk) 08:39, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
