Protective hockey gear
[edit]A "Jill" is a female version of a protective cup in hockey. It might be this slang in other sports as well. JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 06:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Range of Use
[edit]Can a learned person add information about the origin and usage of "Jill"? Giving attention to things such as:
- the article says "Jill" has Latin origins, but what are those Latin origins?
- Where around the world are Jill, Jillian, Gillian, or any other forms used as a female name?
- What other usages are there for Jill? JasonHockeyGuy says in the talk above there is "Protective hockey gear", but there are other usages. What about "Jill-of-all-Trades", for example?
I don't know if the following ifo would go on this page or somewhere else, but I'd like to know:
Why do we have a Jack/Jill-of-all-trades, and a John/Jane-Doe of unidentified deceased human bodies? (I assume Jack or Jill are universal because of the kiddy poem "Jack and Jill", while "Jane" sounds similar to "John" and both are common names useful for public anonymity in western societies. But I have no references for these assumption.) Smittee (talk) 11:54, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
