Quotes in Italics?

[edit]

Why are the quotes from Lahiri in italics? That is not standard in Wikipedia articles. GeneCallahan (talk) 17:04, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliography

[edit]

I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section using cite templates and tables for short stories, poems and/or book reviews. Capitalization and punctuation follow standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, as much as Wikipedia templates allow it. ISBNs and other persistent identifiers, where available, are commented out, but still available for reference. Feel free to continue. Sunwin1960 (talk) 01:43, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Jhumpa" not a pet name as normally understood

[edit]

I reworded the statement that Lahiri’s teacher “decided to call her by her pet name” since a “pet name” as normally understood (and as defined by the wikilink) is an unofficial nickname, whereas in Bengali tradition it is one of a person’s given names reserved for intimate use while the others are used outside the family. Lahiri herself says that “Ho vissuto tutta la vita con il mio nome, Jhumpa Nilanjana Sudeshna Lahiri. È stata mia madre a chiarmi così... in un ospedale di Londra nel 1967”. [“I’ve lived my entire life as J. N. S. L. It was my mother who gave me this name, in a London hospital in 1967.” From the Postfazione to the Italian translation of “The Namesake”.] Colin.champion (talk) 12:48, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
