Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted because the society is the leading genealogical society for research of Jewish ancestry in Great Britain. It has over 1,000 memebers, a major collection of records, libray and issues publications. it is noted in published works -- all to be added to the article if not deleted. --Chefallen (talk) 23:17, 14 June 2011 (UTC) --Chefallen (talk) 23:17, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As the message says: the article does not credibly indicate the importance or significance. It's all well and good saying that something is the leading society, but you need to show it. Please read WP:ORG this tells you what we expect of an organisation for it to be worthy of an article. Then read WP:V to give you some ideas about how to verify that it is worthy. Finally, make sure to read WP:RS so that you can use reliable sources to correctly justify the claims you make. Tens of thousands of articles are created every day, about peoples dogs, their friends, their mother's hairdressers, etc. We need to have rules like those to maintain some credibility. It's a steep learning curve, but stick with it and you'll be doing fine in no time. Fly by Night (talk) 23:37, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've added some information and third party references that should establish notability as an organization with a specific purpose, durability and significance.
Note that while this area may be a niche specialty, it is not an unencyclopedic one. This article belongs to a category of articles of similar societies already established: [[Category:Genealogical societies]] with 47 articles to date. And no need to be snarky. --Chefallen (talk) 03:19, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
