Criticism of the content and language of the article

[edit]

This article is padded and over-reaching. The section that describes how people buy magazines is highly superfluous, and the text regarding the back-story of the publisher belongs on his bio page, not here.

The feelings that the magazine may or may not evoke in its consumers is something that does not belong in an encyclopedia.

I do appreciate that someone that loves this magazine title wanted to make something more of it's wikipedia entry, but most of what has been added recently about it is neither informative nor relevant.

Magazine name

[edit]

It would satisfy my curiosity if the article explained why the magazine is called "Jet". — O'Dea (talk) 12:28, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Doubtless Jet black (the hair color sense) but a confirming source will be needed, should be out there someplace. 72.228.190.243 (talk) 23:52, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I would have guessed too, but Johnson said it's because it got the news out fast. I'm sure the pun was intended, but I can't find any sources that say it.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 01:40, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
One of those funny things where an agent enters a linguistic space which has its own laws of operation. I think everyone has always made the association, so what Johnson claimed, would, in that sense, be beside the main point of what it "really" refers to (i.e. Jet vs. Ebony). However that kind of truth doesn't play well here so as far as the content for the obverse, if there's a reliable quote that should be used, unless there's sourcing for the other (probably does exist). According to an article I found about Jet in Ebony Magazine celebrating the 50th anniversary of Johnson Publishing Company, the magazine was supposed to symbolize "Black and speed."Hanz Berry (talk) 13:06, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adding sub-headings to the "History" section

[edit]

Shouldn't the history of the magazine be broken up into subsections? I only say this because the section would flow more easily and the sub-headings would allow more detail to be added.Hanz Berry (talk) 13:14, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
