I've added a comment about studentification to the article. I don't know anything about the area, but since it's mentioned in the studentification article it seems besst to list it here. If those in the know say that the area doesn't have many students, then it would be good if you could remove the reference from the studentification page as well as here. There are definitely a lot of students in Jesmond; it's a fair comment. 84.123.29.129 19:31, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently (according to one counsellor I spoke to) the area is about 80-90% students. I've lived in Jesmond for my whole life (now a student here myself), over the past 18 years there has definitely been large scale Studentification. When I was younger it was mostly residential, It would be fair to say now that the area is dominated by students with a large distribution of rent-able housing. Several residents I knew were hassled out of their houses by harassment by companies. I don't have the stats on-hand to put this in the article, it's all anecdotal, but the studentification comment is justified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.114.164.180 (talk) 19:28, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"hill of Jesus"

[edit]

Is there any evidence that Jesmond means "hill of Jesus"? It seems much more likely that it's just a corruption of the original "Gese Muth" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.41.44.244 (talk) 18:10, 3 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Heaton Manor School

[edit]

I have removed Heaton Manor School from this page, as the school is in Heaton, and not Jesmond. It does border Jesmond Park West and Newton Road, but as can be seen here [1], the school is clearly in the North Heaton Ward. BNC85 (talk) 14:56, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
