Personal life

[edit]

It seems noteworthy that, while Herman is both categorized as HIV-positive and homosexual, there is no coverage of his personal life, health, or any political stances he may or may not have taken. Surely there is something in those aspects of his life that warrant mention. 03:30, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

(These are discussed in the 2008 "Words and Music by Jerry Herman" on PBS.) His depression and difficulty in working after discovering he was HIV positive are discussed, but, hey, it's been 25 years since La Cage, and no original work at all--just two revues using existing music. I don't think he's been depressed for 25 years.)

In addition to the above, the sources in general for this article aren't very good for a significant theater person and BLP. Apparently many years of editing haven't improved matters. Unfortunately this is typical for articles on the theater, which don't benefit from a young fan base or paid editors. Coretheapple (talk) 16:22, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Year of birth

[edit]

Today an IP editor added "or 1933" to the year of birth. According to the book Jerry Herman: Poet of the Showtune by Stephen Citron, "Gerald Shedon Herman was born on 10 July 1931". (Page 13). The IP editor did not add a source for their "or 1933" edit. The IMDB also has his birthdate as 10 July 1931, but that is not a reliable source. The Popular American composers from Revolutionary times to the present: a biographical and critical guide. Supplement 1-, Volume 1, p. 51, shows his year of birth as 1933, so here there is a source for 1933. The "Songwriters Hall of Fame" bio also shows 1933, as does the Encyclopedia of World Biography, I am not editing this article at this time, but did want to point out the differing sources for the year of birth. Is this copying us?

[edit]

This appeared after the information was added to the article, but I'm worried they might have had a profile of him on their site that may have been plagiarized earlier. Money emoji would you be willing to take a look? --valereee (talk) 16:23, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Valereee, Sorry for the delay; I'm trying to finish Red Dead Redemption 2 before my Christmas break is over (and I still haven't finished it, no spoilers!). I looked up broadwayworld.com articles about Jerry Herman, and they do have a profile on him, but it's just some list along with news stories about him (earwig link so you can see for yourself). Further searches revealed nothing else of note, they don't have profiles on people; they just have basic biographical information. It looks like the obituary plagiarized pretty extensively from us, which is pretty damn lame (especially since it's an obituary). At least credit us! 💵Money💵emoji💵Talk💸Help out at CCI! 16:46, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Money emoji, thank you! I was hoping it was that, as it's now on the MP...and lol on RDR2, no spoilers here! :) --valereee (talk) 16:52, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
