Using autobiographical page as a source
[edit]As per WP:RS#Self-published_sources_in_articles_about_themselves, I don't see a problem with citing the sentences: "Jeremy's Yahoo! career started with the high-traffic Yahoo! Finance site, where he integrated MySQL into the large batch operations of the site's infrastructure, real-time feed processing, and site content display." and "Jeremy spent three years at Marathon Oil in Findlay, Ohio building infrastructure and applications for their corporate Intranet before coming to Yahoo!." using Zawodny's self-published information here and here. The first sentence should probably be toned down and pruned, but I do think the information can go back in with that source. -SpuriousQ 12:24, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Given that most of the information about Zawodny was written by himself, as nobody else on the internet really seems to think he is noteworthy enough to write about, I don't know if this fits the criteria "Articles should contain only material that has been published by reliable sources." (from WP:V). I have seen the link for self published information, but he seems to fail the noteworthy criteria...if he were really that noteworthy, surely someone would have written about him. I suppose if we are going to keep the article (until the next afd comes around) we may as well use his posted information, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, since we can't verify it anywhere. -- Sir Escher talk 13:32, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- For sure, it's preferable that we use sources other than Jeremy. I readded the Yahoo! Finance bit with a third-party source, but couldn't find a new one for Marathon Oil, so his personal website is still the source for that. -SpuriousQ 14:44, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Found one for Marathon Oil. I believe that was the last of the autobiographical references. Thanks SpuriousQ for helping get this fixed up. -- Sir Escher talk 21:42, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks for adding that reference. -SpuriousQ 04:24, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
