On 20 January 2009, I corrected the statement that said that 2 Chronicles 21:4, 17 indicated that all the descendants of David had been killed except Jehoash. Those killed were all the male descendants of Jehoram, Jehoash's grandfather. Chronic2 (talk) 21:57, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why suddenly two regicides?

[edit]

Unlike Israël, where lots of kings were killed until the House of Omri, no Judean king had ever been killed by their subjects until Jehoash and then his son Amaziah. Could it be they were not considered lawfull kings from the House of David? It would make much more sence if Jehoiada had killed all the descendants of Athalia, then that she would have killed her own children and grandchildren. Jehoiada would have been appalled by the Phoenician Baäl-cult of Athalia and have every reason to eliminate her and her descendants. If he then had his own grandchild crowned, pretending it was the last male descendant of David, plenty of people, especially around the palace, must have known what had really happened and therefor might have had a reason to try to remove these non-Davidians.
