[edit]

Is it OK that I added links to websites objectively proving the information provided in the website, such as the PhD degree (link to Harvard University) and the latest publication (link to article in the journal that published it)? Broad001 (talk) 17:23, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Broad001: If you're the same Jeffrey Broadbent that this article is written about, then it would be a really good idea for you to read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Dealing with articles about yourself, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide to familiarize yourself with some things about Wikipedia that you might not know. There are process in place to those written about Wikipedia deal with any concerns about what's written about them, and it's best to try to use these process whenever you can as much as you can instead of trying to do things yourself. Conflict-of-interest editing isn't expressly forbidden by Wikipedia, but it's something that's highly discouraged because it can often lead to problems. So, ideally, you shouldn't really be directly editing content about yourself on Wikipedia (except in some very limited cases) and instead be using talk page like this to propose changes with Wikipedia:Edit requests. This will all others to assess the changes you want to make (like David notMD did below) and determine whether they're in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. So, if you would like the links you mentioned above to be added to the article, the best thing to do would be to use the template Template:COI edit (there are instructions how to do so on the template's page) to make a new edit request below in a new discussion thread.
Your edit request should be easy to understand and as short as possible; it should include the links you want to add, explain where you want to add them, and explain why you think they should be added. If you want to add the links to the as "External links" section at the end of the article, please take a look at Wikipedia:External links for more details on what types of links are OK to add there. If you want to add the links as Wikipedia:Citations to verify certain content in the article itself, please take a look at Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Reliable sources for more details on the types of things Wikipedia considers to be reliable sources, Please understand that Wikipedia has more than six million articles and every Wikipedia:Wikipedian is a volunteer. Using the "COI edit" template will make it easier for those Wikipedians working on such things to find your request, but it still might take some time before someone responds. If a week or so passes without anyone responding, you can ask for assistance at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. I will add some more general information on all of this to your user talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:40, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
