Concerning the history:

The Devonian fossil beds are actually in Clarksville, Indiana (as is the Falls of the Ohio State Park).

But mention should be made of the fact that Jeffersonville is the only town designed by Thomas Jefferson himself. The original plan called for alternating parks and city blocks, and was not implemented except for a couple of parks, which still remain along Park Place.

From user:redfarmer:

I've corrected the information on the Falls and placed it in its correct place under Clarksville, Indiana. If anyone knows anymore history, this article could use it. Sad as it is, I grew up in Jeffersonville and don't know any more about it.

Update

Well, I've been adding a lot of the history to it. I have even created a sub-category just for Jeff Township. I also just gave the ratings for this article.--Bedford 15:30, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

I am surprized there is no mention of William Branham, the internationally famous evangelist and faith healer who started his ministry and lived many years in Jeffersonville.==== —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.17.63.49 (talk) 12:10, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

  • The article is about Jeffersonville, not William Branham. I have not found a good enough notability for him to be mentioned in the article besides a founder of a church. Which there are plunty of Churches in Jeffersonville, and numerous that are larger the could warrant more notability. Jahnx (talk) 08:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

References

  • The article only has 4 references listed on it. It really needs some focus in adding more references and maybe with a little extra elbow grease we can get this up to a GA.

There's a new book out about the history of Clark County, and I intend to get it, so that should help.--Bedford 18:32, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

I came to this page looking for more information regarding the illegal gambling history of the city. The reference section still manages to be lacking some important items to back up info in the 1900s area of the history of this town. Whoever wrote about the illegal gambling and the KKK added nothing to substantiate these stories. It was very annoying to see the same city sponsored website listed 3x as a reference for city history and the website has managed to keep out any info about the illegal gambling bringing recovery to the city from the Great Depression and the Flood of 1937. In fact the city website mentions it was the Shipyard that brought prosperity during WW2 and had no mention of the Depression! Where did all this historical info come from?

This article still requires further cleanup in the references, and Bedford if you have the info from that book, could you provide some more meat with the potatoes of this article? Grazie Brattysoul (talk) 04:15, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

History section

Our history section was a jumbled mess, and a lot of it belonged in other articles, especially that which dealt with the Quartermaster Depot. That's why I marked it for cleanup.--Bedford 17:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

The subsection on the Civil War in particular is a perfect fit for your description: unsourced, poorly written and the article would be vastly improved if it were simply blanked and begun anew. Getting this page anywhere near GA status is but a pipe dream without something coherent in place of what exists at present. Hushpuckena (talk) 02:23, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

I gave it a B grade as it has all the basic facts for a city, and I gave it High importance as it is a city of over 25,000 with significant history to it.--Bedford 15:32, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
