Currently ineligible. I should note that while he is currently on ITN, it is not as a bold link, so the article was technically eligible to be nominated. Actually meeting the DYK requirements is another story.

Addition: there was a split in the Libertarian Party of Russia. Today there are two different organizations calling themselves the Libertarian Party of Russia and using the same symbols.

5x expanded by LALKOVED (talk). Self-nominated at 21:38, 25 November 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Javier Milei; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • The article has not been expanded fivefold on that date, by the nominator or anybody else. The nominator has not even edited the article at all. And with its current size, I would say that a fivefold expansion is plainly impossible to achieve. The only way for this article to make it to DYK would be to be promoted as a good article. Incumbent?

[edit]

Are presidential elections now underway in Argentina? 85.193.244.153 (talk) 21:12, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The elections were last year, what do you mean by that? Richie1509 (talk) 04:50, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, sorry. I thought the term “incumbent” referred only to the election period, when the election results are known and the new president has not yet taken office. 85.193.244.153 (talk) 09:11, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay, glad you realised it. Richie1509 (talk) 06:26, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Italian Citizenship

[edit]

I do believe the paragraph about his Italian citizenship needs rewriting.

Milei's Italian citizenship has not been given by Meloni: it was acknowledged by Italian State after bureaucratic procedures as by Italian law he always had it from birth. Unlike in the process of acquiring citizenship for people not born of at least one Italian citizen, the Government has no voice in the acknowledgment procedure. 178.19.148.107 (talk) 15:51, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, that does make sense given the title of the principle it was given under. The problem currently is that the source we have describes it as being "given" or "bestowed" by the current PM. Maybe if we have a source that describes it that way we could do a quick re-write? Squatch347 (talk) 17:57, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rephrased: Since his grandfather descended from Calabriain Southern Italy, during his presidency as President of Argentina he applied for Italian citizenship for jus sanguinis and received it under the government of prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in December 2024 Hitiste2023 (talk) 11:05, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of Milei as Argentinian and Italian in the intro

[edit]

The fact that he is an Italian citizen must be mentioned at the beginning of the page as follows: “ Javier Gerardo Milei (born 22 October 1970) is an Argentine and Italian economist and politician who has served as President of Argentina since 2023.”

He applied spontaneously to obtain Italian nationality through jus sanguinis. Therefore, even if he is currently the head of state of another country, his status as an Italian citizen must be acknowledged upfront in the description.

This approach aligns with the practice of specifying nationality for public figures, particularly when dual nationality is relevant. It also highlights why many heads of state avoid holding dual citizenship, given the potential legal and diplomatic complexities.

Historical Reference: Princess Margriet of the Netherlands was born on 19 January 1943 in Ottawa, Canada. To ensure that she would not acquire Canadian citizenship by jus soli, an agreement was made with the Canadian government to designate the land of the hospital as Dutch territory. This safeguarded her Dutch nationality while avoiding her being born as a Canadian citizen.

In the case of Milei, since he applied for and obtained Italian citizenship during his mandate, this fact must be reflected in the introduction of his biography as part of his self-identification.
