Requested move

I've requested a move from "Jarlaxle Baenre" to "Jarlaxle", as the former contains a spoiler within its title—it is a secret uncovered by reading the books that Jarlaxle is Matron Baenre's son. It's perfectly valid to have an emboldened "Jarlaxle Baenre" on the page, but further down the page under a spoiler warning, not as the title. -Erolos 15:38, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't see how Jarlaxle can be Neutral Evil because the signs point to him being Chaotic Neutral, think about it, Jarlaxle only kills when he needs to or feels threatens which is a trait that embodies a Neutral aligned character and Chaotic because he is a drow. Now if he was a follower of Lolth then i would say CE but it just doesn't fit his character.

I agree - regardless of what it says about him in the villain's lorebook, he is consistently portrayed as the personification of a chaotic neutral character. - acespot

You're right. this isn't democratic. Neither debate nor voting will endow upon him an alignment. Since, he was created by R. A. Salvatore, only he can answer this question. I will ask him tonight at a book-signing. In Villain's lorebook, Jarlaxle is neutral evil, and he is just a fighter, can someone give sources for his change of alignment and his rogue/wizard class?

Yo, does anyone know what books come after servant of the shard that have to do with Jarlaxle and Artemis. I want to read more about them.

Jarlaxles State

At the end of Servant of the Shard It explains something about Jarlaxle being sacrificed by his own family. Does this mean that Jarlaxle is a Zin-Carla? Jamo 04:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

No. Matron Baenre wanted to sacrifice him, but she failed to penetrate his skin. More hints are given in "The Road of the Patriarch", but I think it's too early to include them here. Lolth had no hand in the fate of Jarlaxle. Philip Kopetzky 19:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Lolth had everything to do with Jarlaxle's life being spared. She is some kind of goddess and was able to see that there was something about Jarlaxle that would cause him to search out chaos and intrigue. Lolth grew interested in him, and rather than have him sacrificed she spared his life. For this no one in Menzoberanzan could lay a finger on Jarlaxle Baenre, or they would face the wrath of Lolth. No. As described in "The Road of the Patriarch", the psionicist of House Oblodra saved Jarlaxle with an undetectable forcefield. His mother just assumed that Lolth was protecting him, as everyone did. Kimmuriel Oblodra later hints that he was protected for a reason (even if it was only to provoke Matron Baenre). Copy editing and cleanup

This article needs some serious attention to grammar, tense, and general style; especially the "History" section. The recent add by user 80.193.98.48 needs MASSIVE cleanup, but I haven't read the book yet, so I don't know what he was trying to say. I've added the "copyedit" template to the article. 4th edition

he is featured in the 4th edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, and does not have class levels anymore as per most 4th ed npc's. i propose that his stats as listed in the current entry be removed and perhaps replaced with the 3rd ed Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting entry, which i believe had him as a NE ftr12 (though i will have to get the book back to check this). in any case, i likewise propose the addition of a 4th edition entry in this "stat block" if we may refer to it as such. in 4e, he is a lvl 21 elite skirmisher, and quite an elite one at that. - nzbensen
