COI Requests for Jardine Matheson

[edit]

A number of stats need to be updated, mostly. As I have a financial COI with Jardine Matheson, I'm not editing the page itself but instead requesting an interested volunteer(s) review the changes, and if they agree, implement them directly. Thank you :) JeanetteM2 (talk) 01:05, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request - Infobox Changes

Add:

Link: https://www.jardines.com/en/group/directors.html

Add Astra as Subsidiary

As a major holding under Jardine Cycle & Carriage, Astra International could be added to the subsidiary list in the infobox. Not sure why it's not already there?

  • Revenue: Decrease US$40.9 billion (2019)
  • Number of employees: 464,000 (2019)

Link (page 3): https://www.jardines.com/assets/files/Investors/Reports/matheson/jm-ar2019.pdf

Request - Infobox/Page Changes - Cut Subsidiary

[edit]

Jardine Lloyd Thompson is no longer a subsidiary after being acquired by Marsh & McLennan in 2019.

Link: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2018/09/18/jardinelloyd-thompson-bought-bymarsh-mclennanfor-43bn/

Changes needed:

  • Removing Jardine Lloyd Thompson from the infobox (or marking as "former")
  • Removing it from the lead
  • Deleting the "Jardine Lloyd Thompson" section from "subsidiaries" heading, or maybe moving it under a new "former subsidiaries" heading

Request - Lead Paragraph Changes

[edit]

Update of Profit Percentages

Pretty much all the numbers/stats look like they were added around 2010, or some in 2013. Simple updates:

In 2nd para in lead, "41 percent of the company profits were still earned in China," could be updated to 58 percent in 2019

Link (page 9): https://www.jardines.com/assets/files/Investors/Reports/matheson/jm-ar2019.pdf

Fortune 500 Update

In the 3nd para in lead, switch 2013 Fortune ranking with "Jardine Matheson is a Fortune Global 500 company."

Link: https://fortune.com/company/jardine-matheson/global500/

Request - Jardine Pacific Section

[edit]

Jardine Shipping Services was recently sold to Connexus, and the mention could be removed from the Jardine Pacific section.

Request - Hongkong Land Section

[edit]

Square feet in this section is outdated, in the second sentence, need to change 5,000,000 square feet (45,000 m2) to "9,140,000 square feet (850,000 m2)"

Request - Corporate Structure Section

[edit]

1st Paragraph changes

A few roles have changed and now need to be worded in the past tense in the first paragraph.

  • In first sentence, it needs an update for the chairman retiring, so maybe simplify to: "Henry Keswick, the company's Tai-pan from 1970 (aged 31) to 1975 and the 6th Keswick to be Tai-pan of the company, is chairman emeritus."

Link: https://www.jardines.com/en/group/directors.html

  • 2nd sentence, about the brother Simon, change "is the 7th Keswick to be Tai-pan" to "was the 7th Keswick to be Tai-Pan."
  • 4th sentence, change content to "Ben Keswick, son of Simon, is executive chairman of Jardine Matheson Group and from 2012 to 2020 was Tai-pan."

Link: https://www.rothschildandco.com/en/who-we-are/corporate-governance/supervisory-board/adam-keswick-profile/

  • Fifth sentence, change to: "Adam Keswick, son of Sir Chips Keswick, is an executive director."

Link: https://www.jardines.com/en/group/directors.html

Director Updates

As of 2021, the directors of Jardine Matheson Holdings are:

Link: https://www.jardines.com/en/group/directors.html

Also, Neil McNamara is no longer company secretary , and since the role is minor, might as well remove the sentence about him entirely.

Link: https://www.provokemedia.com/latest/article/jardine-matheson-names-rolls-royce%27s-erin-atan-as-corporate-affairs-chief

Also, Lord Sasson is no longer involved, so cut that section or move it to history?

Scottish Leadership Section

Same as with infobox change, number of employees has increased to 464,000 (2019)

Connection to the opium trade

[edit]

having recently read a book on the topic (Imperial Twilight by Platt), it is rather shocking to me that no mention of the opium trade is made in the history section of this page, considering both traders' mains sources of wealth came from opium. I think it merits inclusion. 157.131.76.206 (talk) 03:58, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I second this. I only just learned about this company and its connection to the trade (plus what its logo supposedly represents) today. If any of it is true, I'm very disappointed at the lack of acknowledgement in this article. Goddale120 (talk) 22:10, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
